View Full Version : Scissor Jacks...blue or black? Changes per year?

I have two scissor jacks (blue with the orange label). I think one is the one from my car...although the original may have gotten shuffled around at some point... The other would have come from the 84 donor Capri or the previous 85 donor Capri.

What colors did they use...when did they change?

Wow, this is going above and beond.

My 85 has a blue one. I had a spare that was never used but being 4-lug it had to go.

yes definitely 85s, but I think the 84s did as well. I know the 82s had black.

So maybe black from 79-82 and blue from 83-86.

Need some more replies from the 79-84 car crowd.

I think the 83s are still black, but I'm not sure when the change took effect.

Mid 80's Mark 7's and my sons 87 Fox Cougar is Black.

Ford would not have changed for different Foxes. The easiest way to check, would be if anyone has the microfiche for the parts lists. Or, I think DOES 2 on Ford's modern parts computer shows upgraded p/n's.

We need to see what the P/N's are for the respective years. Even a color change would be a different engineering number and therefore a P/N change of atleast the suffix.

My Aero is blue however, my 4-Eye is Black

no the Marks and Mustangs etc were different.

Ford would not have changed for different Foxes.

With all the wierdness I have seen from what Ford does with their parts...I don't try to assume too much.

I'll check in my '83 but I'm pretty sure it is blue. The (scheduled) build date was 7/83 and the CUN is 200735.

I'm trying to remember for sure, but i THINK my 86's was blue. I had an 87lx 5.0 with a blue one too (who knows if it was original, was a rebuilt salvage car twice totalled before I got it.) Both of our 89s have black ones.

So it looks like they went from black to blue and back to black? Perhaps there were issues with a supplier or something and switched and maybe switched yet again or back to the original later on?

I have so many of these things laying around I could make sculptures out of them. 8)

I think...they were black until 82, blue after that. I remember my 79 and 81 had black ones, but the 2 86's I've had had blue ones. If I remember correctly the blue ones had the built in handle, the black ones needed the lug wrench to go with it.

I think 83s were black or at least that is when the blue transistioned in. We haven't heard from 83s here with original stuff yet.

Sounds like the switchover was after 82 then. Maybe it was a mid year 83 deal.

We need a few peeps with early 83s to toss in their $.02.

That is a link where some guys were talking about late cars. Seems like they went well into september for their builds (not just the last year either)...and were quite possibly finishing up only leftovers at that point.

According to Third Gen. News, September 6, 1983 was the last production day.

I hadn't seen that info before...great!! Most production stops in August, so the September production shocked me. It seems that for a couple years they went into early Spetember, but as you can see, most end in August. Thanks for the links!!

And you notice those production dates and totals are just for 5.0L and Turbo GT models. Nothing about the SVO, NA 2.3, and V6 models.

got to think the October date was a misprint??????? 86 production had already begun a month earlier.

85 was just about the weirdest year...from all aspects.

if you have an 82 with an ORIGINAL blue jack...then there must have been two suppliers and color was not an issue.

Yeah my grandparents were the original owners of the car and the jack was only used a couple of times.

Um, did anyone notice if their jack had a handle attached to it (thin rod thing with a washer welded to it) or a separate handle which doubled as a lug wrench? I just noticed my '78 Fairmonts had black jacks with the separate handle (the hex part folds into the handle) while my '83 Fairmont has the thin rod handle and a separate lug wrench which has a special clip in the trunk to store it. I forgot the damn color of the jack. My '84 Notch is blue and I think it has the thin rod handle attached - but I don't recall seeing a lug wrench in the car. I'll check the '83 and '84 again tomorrow.

Uh-Oh, My '83 Fairmont's jack is not black but not the same shade of blue like the one in the '84 Mustang. It's a very dark blue almost black. It must be a Fairmont thang? Oh, both cars had the orange sticker on the jack.
