If given the chance to have classes broken down how would you like to see them?
Example:
Trophy Class: Full Exhaust, No Slicks, DOT Tires OK, 13.99 helmet 12.90 and slower.
Super Street: No Box, No Trans Brake, Slicks and/or DOT Tires, Open headers allowed. ET 12.50 - 14.00
Modified: No Box, Slicks and/or DOT Tires, Open headers allowed. ET 11.00 - 12.49
Modified Box: Slicks and/or DOT Tires, Open headers allowed. ET 11.00 - 12.49
PRO: No Box, Slicks or DOT Tires, ET 10.00 - 10.99
PRO Box: Slicks or DOT Tires, ET 10.00 - 10.99
Super Pro: No Box, Slicks, ET 9.99 and quicker
Super Pro Box: Slicks, ET 9.99 and quicker
Quick 16: quickest 16 of Super Pro, box allowed.
What do you think?

And "box" means what?

that wasn't part of the poll LOL I was actually going to use that as option 3 "What's a box?"
Basically anything electronic beyond a transbrake and rev limiter.
I.E. stutter box, throttle stops etc. You can dial in how much time you want to leave from the line and the differene is your RT to the top yellow and you pushing the button for the count down to release the transbrake etc.
Takes handi cap racing to a whole new level.

Tough call..... You start having too many classes; all you do is slow the event\day down to a crawl. Most tracks have less than 6-8 staging lanes & that could ba an issue as well..... There should be one or two box classes & that is it in my opinion....

I don't think it would slow things down that much. At the track I go to they generally call 2 - 4 classes at a time. Sure you spend your time in staging lanes but they do call those classes. If anything I think it'll speed up the process.

I think pro and super pro box or no box doesn't matter. that also elleviates 2 classes so you have 7 not 9. 9 is a lot of classes to try to run in one day and could end up running over into teh next day. The firtst few hours of teh event aare spent dialing the car in and seeing how it runs. Next time your at teh track time how long it takes fromt eh time 2 cars leave teh starting line til they are done with teh race and out of the way for the next 2 cars to line up. You might be suprised. Figure that into how many cars your going to run for each class and how many races that will mean for each class and see how long it will take. Then take into acount atleast an hour for cleanup time. I can almost gurantee you that atleast one car will drop fluids on teh track or wreck and need a cleanup. That can be 30 min for one car. then plan the extra 30 minutes for as just incase. Also remember that each class needs adequate cool down inbetween each run. Once the day starts winding down it will slow the racing down as their are less cars and teh track will sit idle for a period of time for cool down. If you don't give the racers their cool down time when it matters the most they will be unhappy. AS a matter of fact take the mofidified class and say no box. Now you have 6 classes. that is enough to fill an entire day.
Our mustang drag days usually have 6 classes in them and it takes all day to run the 6 classes. If we had 7 then their would be no finals as time would not allot for it.

I don't know how they do it on the West Coast or really any other tracks then the 2 local to me. I can tell you at Thompson they have 2 cars doing a burn out, as they start to stage the next 2 pull in to do their burn outs. The lights come down the cars leave the last two go stage and th enext two do a burn out.
We use a 20 sec auto start system and I can tell you that unless they have oil downs or an accident they move those cars through the system.
I think it is most important to have a box / no box class in pro and super pro.
At Thomson there is 8 staging lanes.
Lane one Jr Drags,
Lane two Bikes and snowmobiles
Lane 2 and 3 for Trophy when they decide to call the class.
Lanes 4 and 5 for Mod class
Lanes 6 and 7 for Top ET
Lane 8 remains open for overflow.
I am just saying this to say that is is very possible to have 3 - 4 classes called and run them through very efficiantly.

the cars are at least at half track before the next cars do their burnout out here on teh west coast. liek i said just time one complete run starting with teh second set of cars so you can figure out how long each run will take and that will help you determine how many in each clas and how long each class will take.

accually it is for saftey reasons. Now for one I did see a guy in a mustang stage his car and go a little too far forward and have to back up. lights go down and he lets out teh clutch and slams on teh gas. He was really moving, in reverse, right at teh guy ready to do his burnout in teh water box. I have also seen a guy doing a burnout and lets lots of the linelock buton and goes shooting forward to the guys just leaving the line bam, right in teh back of some poor guys car who was just leaving teh line. So I think it is safe to stay out of teh water box until the other guys have left the line and start your burn out when they are half track or so.

well maybe your burnout pits are much closer to the staging area then they are at my track, if that were the case I totally understand.

no, there is supposed to be a new drag strip openning in the Spring and I would like to gather some input for how people would like to be classed. I also want to submit some info to Thompson for the same reason. They tend to treat JR drag better then they treat Trophy class. The idea is to make a better playing field for all.

We used to run a similiar program to what you have there except there was not a box/no box option.
By box I mean throttle stops and delay boxes.
Super pro was pro tree and box class
Pro was not a box class
Quick sixteen.
All class racing was bound by NHRA guidelines
The more classes you have the more the payouts will drop.
Big payouts have to come from numbers, if you only have so many cars at any event and you have to divide the payouts in two because you have twice as many classes you will have a lot of racers unhappy.
I used to be very involved with our local track here, and have seen quite a few class changes over the years more classes means smaller payouts and longer days.
