View Full Version : Fairmont Sleeper
Well I have a posibility of picking up a clean fairmont for cheap (four door model) I dont know whats in it yet owners thinks it's a six cylinder, I will have more info later today.
Any how my qeustion is how hard is it to drop a V-8 in this baby and make a slick little sleeper out of it?

No harder than a Mustang of the same vintage. Take a few moments to poke around the site and read a few threads....you'll most likely find what you need.

If the Fairmont is solid, go ahead and buy it even if it's got a rubber band in place of the engine. (My Futura had a 4-cylinder. A rubber band would have been preferable) A 5.0 with a carb is an easy swap, especially if the car came with a 4 or V-8. If it had a 6 then you'll have to change the K-member. An injected 5.0 is more of a project since it has to be wired and the tank and fuel system are different. If you're really ambitious and/or slightly insane, you can put a 4.6 or 5.4 Modular V-8. Good luck!
Thank you FuturaGuy, I am probabley going to pick this car up soon, it has the inline six in it and I will just br driving it for now, but down the road I would definatley like to put a 302 in it, some gears and a manual because I think it would make a nice little 4 door muscle car to suprise alot of people with

8) you might consider hopping up the six instead of swapping to a V8 since you wont have to change the K member. check out www.fordsixparts.com for cylinder heads from australia and argentina that have removable intakes(the bane of the US six) that bolt to the US block. mike also has headers, cams, rocker arms, even full roller rockers that are adjustable, pistons, and other stuff. he is even working with a company to cast up NEW aluminum cylinder heads that will support as much as 400 normaly aspirated horse power(use that head and pop a decent turbo on it and make some real power!!). and yes the aluminum head is going to be competitive in price with aluminum V8 heads. also check out www.fordsix.com for tech info in hopping up the small six, including jack's adaptation of a crossflow aussie head to a US block. he has started the engine with the new head on it and says it sounds fabulous. he does have a few issues to contend with, but nothing major. this is going to be an interesting time for the ford six. also check out the forums at fordsix.com as well. we have guys over there who have hopped up their sixes, and regularly surprise the V8 guys.

You don't have to swap the Kmember to replace the I6 with a windsor V8.
