well installin a couple new gauges so i took off the dash pad. I was cleaning it up and stuff thinking about re dyeing it black. And unfortunately the drivers side speaker grill was rotted bad. When i wiped over it it just crumbled and now I have a nice hole in my dash where that speaker cover was. Is there any way to fit this? Or should I just reinstall the damn pad and cover it up with the dash cover I have? I though about trying to fill it in and smooth it. Then dye the whole thing.
Bondo?
fiberglass?
bunch of JB weld?

Thanks guys.

just puit the cover on it, or get another one

to repair is just not worh the time and effort, and it will just crumble away again

Same problem...I made covers out .030 aluminum (octagon shaped) covered them with speaker cloth and attached them to the dash pad with double back tape.
You can form the aluminum to the contour of the dash.......

Mine's in just as bad of shape, Im finding that if its that way its time to just cover it and save up for a new one. I found a dash cover for 10$ and put it on while I save the 175$ for the new pad. Its going to continue to rot away on your and ANY effort you put into making it look *better* will be wasted in the end. The covers do a good job for the meantime.

just go to the junkyard and look through the mustangs or capris and look for a dash pad that lasted longer than the car. i found one at the junkyard that was brand new for 35 bucks. i tried to fix mine and cracked down the middle. well good luck

thanks C. Wood. Not sure where im goin with this yet. Im workin on fuel/dizzy problems right now. Cash flows to it first . lol But Ill keep the above in mind. Thats actually a pretty fair price compared to the other catalogs I have too. Suprising being from Year One!

I think for the cheep quick plan Im gonna superglue the honeycomb back into the busted hole. Then use JB weld to fillin the holes. Just in a thin layer. Ill get some autozone interior spray and give it hell. If it looks terrible, Ill just put my old foam pad back over the pad. If it comes out ok, Ill run it until I can find a good pad to replace it. Thanks for your help man. Have a good evening.

i'm damn lucky, i have a 79 junker, the body was torn to hell the only good part was the interior...just like brand new, well when i got my 82 all of the interior was shot, so i could just swap it over, comes in handy for extra screws too!

Yeah Id like to have a donor car for parts like this. lol. Unfortunately my other vehical is a dodge dakota and a chrysler concorde.

I got some quick JB weld and used it today. Its amaizing! The mix of components turns out to be the same color as my dash pad!!! SVO grey. Or Dark grey. whatever it is. Im gonna try sanding it down to smooth. Well see what happens. If all else fails Ill put the foam cover back on. lol. Thanks
