Just to fill everyone in I took out my 306 out of my 85 and dropped it in my 87. Before I pulled it out the engine ran no problems and temp stayed at 180.

While the engine was out I replaced the intake gaskets and the carb gaskets (base and spacer)

Started the engine and noticed smoke comming out of the breather and the engine RPM would climb to about 1500 then slowly back down and also ran on its own cold at 1000 RPM. The engine never idled at 1000 until it was warm since there is no choke. I drove the car down the street and it died and wouldn't start back up

Let it sit till yesterday and just for kicks I pulled the dip stick and noticed it was over full, smelt it and gas was in the oil.

I changed the oil today, replaced the pcv and no more smoke. Float levels are fine. Car will not idle and if I rev it sometimes it will come back down slowly and also climb up still on its own. Thats problem #1 Also I never touched any settings on the carb since it was fine before I pulled the motor. Only gaskets were done

#2 is the temp is climbing up to 200+. My only guess is could i have blocked up a water passage with the intake gasket? I could have sworn i put it in correctly but perhaps i didn't.

I never sprayed the intake and carb gaskets yet for leaks but as I type this it just reminded me i probably should lol

sounds like u have maybe a leaky intake, which would explain the idle and possibly the fuel in the oil...good luck with that one

If you are getting blowby and some of the other syptoms you described, you may have a leak under the intake at the gasket. You may not find this with WD40 or carb cleaner squirting. Pull your plugs and see if any are oil soaked. You may have put the wrong gasket in. There is more than one style and I believe the difference maybe in the water passage location and size.
