there seems to some glue residue, like some badge was previously there. just wondering if my dash is missing something. this is the area above the glue box.

There was nothing on that dash panel in any '85 or '86 Mustang.

Yup. They only had/have a "Cobra" decal/sticker on the truck or hatch.

gt emblem, what does it look like?

great, thanks, i found it just weird cuz the cars been in the family since '87 and its always been like that. maybe i'll put a 5.0 badge over it.

The "GT" emblem that Matt82GT is talking about was in '82 and '83 (and early '84?) GTs only. Here is that emblem:
