I've seen pics of some mustangs with power steering pump to where the a/c used to be. Anyone have any pics up close so I can see how to route the belt after this and what I can leave off. and what kind of belt or what size. Thanks in advance.

I just used the Ford racing kit, went to auto zone and asked for a belt for a mustang without A/C

This is an AC PS Pump that was relocated with the FMS AC delete kit (what Foxchassis told me).

sscherin: How about those pics?
you guys dropn the smog pump too?
heres a belt number for the power steering pump moved up to the ac compression location and completly bypasses the smog pump so it can be removed.
dont know how good this number is between difrent brand belts and stuff.
belt brand is i think Gates, Micro-V k60730
belt goes from the idler pully counter clockwise over alternator. straight down to the crank. up around water pump and then to the power steering. im sure that was confuseing as all get out. belt lenght was measured with string and found one to match.

That is a factory A/C delete '86 5.0 HO engine.
The belt routes exactly the same way as it does on a car with A/C, except for the fact that there is no A/C compresser for the belt to go around.

new id seen the ac delete smog bypass kit somewhere. this should help a few out and make the mod hassle free.

if you use the a/c delete and remove the smog pump the tensioner may push the belt down enough to rub on the water pump. i simply put a pulley on the upper mount for the smog pump.
just grabbed a tape to measure clearance. its got one it at theyre closest point.
belt comes within 1" exackly 4"s from the centerline of the idler puley. at the puley its not even close.
i think dummy pully looks horrible, seen them before. why fake when you could realy just bypass it easily and effectivly creat more power with less drag on the motor. i know wed never notice that dummy pulling spinning in lola land. but they motor will.
i realy dont think clearance is an issue.

That must be due to the March pulleys. Stangboy is right, if you merely remove the smog pump from a stock engine, the belt will kiss itself.
That kit looks like the hot ticket for sure.
Unfortunately, some of us have to deal with centralized vehicle inspections. Even so, I at least feel better that my car pollutes the air less because not only did I convert it to SFI, I swapped over ALL the emissions control devices and they are all hooked up and working. :D. I guess Woodsy Owl and Iron Eyes Cody left an impression on me as a child. Give a hoot, don't pollute!. Iron Eyes is the Indian who sheds a tear when he sees all the tires and garbage in that '70s TV environmental spot. He died some years ago as he was well into his 90s.

That's why you then route the belt around the water pump and crank pulleys in a different order than 'stock'.

Thats a big help thats what I was looking to get. Thanks
the pic of the smog delete without ac is off.
pullies look to be off some, theres isnt near that much clearance. the idler is even off alot.

If you're talking about the illustrations I provided, they're not meant to be to scale. They're only to illustrate the two different ways to route the belt, i.e. water pump or crank first or second respectively.
And clearances can be altered by changing the belt length. So if you don't have as much clearance with your tensioner as you're comfortable with or think you should have, shorten the belt.
