I had my heads off today and I see that my pistons at p/n E4ZE are these forged?
Also the block has cast into it YYY not the normal XXX it also has RL cast into it, does that stand for "roller lifter"?

E4 pistons are cast aluminum.
Forged aluminum pistons started in '85 (4V only).

E4 pistons are cast aluminum.
Forged aluminum pistons started in '85 (4V only).
The '85 forged pistons have an E4ZE-6110-SB part number. The old sandcast ones are D9OE-6110-AA.
E4ZE-6110-SB (8.4:1 cr) forged, thin/low tension rings, thicker ring lands
All the roller blocks are either xxx or yyy AFAIK. There is no known difference between the two that I am aware of, though I do believe the blocks were strengthened in '86.
Actually, the '85 roller block is
E5AE-6010-DC
(122 lbs.) revised for roller tappets
'86-'95 were all
E6SE-6010-DC
increased bore wall and deck material thickness. Siamesed bores in water jackets (126 lbs.)
RL = Roller Lifters? Sounds plausible to me. Aren't you far enough into the engine to see what kind of lifters it has? Or at the very least if there is a telltale spider in the lifter valley?

Where'd you get those engineering part numbers from?

I should have just gone to Flecth's site to begin with instead of looking stupid  and yes Frankie I had to down to the short block and installed a camshaft. I never doubted it had roller lifters to begin with I just wondered if the RL meant that. I have seen many XXX blocks, have 1 one the engine stand now and 1 inthe machine shop and they do not have the RL casting but I have never seen the YYY blocks.
Thanks Frankie and all for the input.

Though I have that site bookmarked as well. Drsvo posted a handy link. :)

Ok, that makes more sense, LOL. You were merely speculating on what the "RL" casting meant. Actually, all the YYY blocks are male and the XXX blocks are female. The casting makes reference to the X and Y chromosomes. The YYY ones are better because they don't act up once a month and leak oil. They are marked RL because they were cast by Ralph Lauren. I think this is why they enjoy having pistons in all their holes so much.
All I've ever seen are the XXX blocks myself. Not only are they female, they are porn stars, hence the XXX, and they like having pistons in all their holes too.
Does that clear everything up for you?
Oh, and one other thing, because the male blocks are uhhm well you know..., They are just as likely to blow a rod as the female blocks. :P

The porno blocks have more nickel or something right? That is what I have always been told.
