So after 2 16 hour days the coupe runs. hardest part wasthe wiring of course but i got it figured out thanks to the auto zone.com wiring diagrams. I swapped the SEFI harness from my 86 GT into it

This post is kinda a mods/mechanicals post too so if the mods want to move it they can.

Things i HAD to change/add:
Fuel Tank
Fuel lines
Run wiring for electric fuel pump
swap in efi harness
splice the efi harness into the dash harness as the connectors didnt match. (note that i only hooked up what i absolutly had to to get it to run as most wires are un-needed(?)
Shifter
throttle cable (if you want cruise you will need to swap this for a v8 one also)
MAP sensor location.
move battery to driver's side of car.

I also swapped to the interally (2g) regulated alternator off od my GT. for that you pretty much just cut off the black/orange, yellow, red/orange and yellow/light green about 2 foot from the firewall and the splice the 2g harness in and hook it up to the battery side of the starter silenoid. the last 2 are for the ammeter and they ended to causeing a short that bypassed the ignition switch so i just cut them out.

pics to come, if you have any questions ask.

PS: something like this needs to be added to the archive as after 3 days of searching i couldnt find anything anywhere that was useful in my swap

Why did you have to splice in the dash harness? The '86 harness is supposed to be plug-n-play, especially in another '86.

That runs contrary to everything that I recall reading about doing a SFI V8 swap. My '86 engine harness was a direct plug in to the '85 dash harness, but my car was also started life as a V8, albeit with CFI.

I guess you weren't in the mood to swap dash harnesses. Congrats on getting it running.

What did you do about an air intake & filter? I cut a big round hole in the inner fender and used the MAC CAI that came on my parts car. It came out quite well. I would have rather used a stock airbox, but I didn't have one and this was easier anyway.

The 4 bangers have the EFI air filter box hole behind the battery.

i tried to start mine today. i fires, but won't even come close to idle.
now the battery is dead in both the car and my laptop.
ha
the beauty of stand alone fuel injection.

i think my timing is way the hell off. but i can't tell cause there isn't anyone here to help me.

Oh, of course they would now wouldn't they, this is Ford we are talking about here. All the bodies would be stamped out exactly the same, that makes sense. Silly me, LOL.

I'll have to take the saw to my 85 since it has a big empty...sheet of metal where a hole would be

i wasnt in the mood to swap dash harnesses, especially since this coupe has a nice unmolested interior. for the intake i have a metal pipe ( down pipe off a ford turbo diesel) and the mass air meter and filter on the end of that down by the hole for the stock air box.

The two bolt holes for the battery tray exactly match up with the bottom two bolt holes in the factory airbox or that plate on the CAI I used. I used these two to locate the plate so I knew exactly where to cut the hole. I used a big hole saw my dad happened to have that was just the right size. First I found the exact center of where the hole had to be and then I drilled a small pilot hole. Everything lined up just right.

Stangboy, how's she coming along? Any pics yet?

That's interesting. How well does the downpipe fit? There isn't much clearance between the throttle body and the strut tower, I would think making your own CAI would be more trouble that it is worth. Post up some pics so we can see what you did. Sounds like some good 'ole yankee ingenuity. :)
