My '79 Capri came w/ a brand new Fram Air Hog. What is the best air filter, in ya'lls opinion?

i'll second that! but i don't know anything about air hogs. i know murrays in the states has knn cleaner for the filters in stock for 10 bucks, next time i go over i'll pick some up. i saw the air hogs filters too but i didn't see the cleaner for it, if they're even reusable.

i've seen cars lose power with k&n air filters
doesn't really matter. its just an air filter.

Please elaborate Luke.
As for the air hog, they are just K&N rip-offs made by Fram. Quality look pretty good and I do believe they are reuseable, though honestly, unless they get soaked with oil, any paper element is reuseable. You just blow them out with compressed air and then put them back in.
One of my buddies got the air hog and he likes it.
I've been using K&N filters. As for the loss of power thing... no loss of power... though I really don't see a gain in power either. What I do see is a slight bit better gas milage. There also that fact that you'll never have to buy another filter. Both my FOXes have them and am looking for a K&N for the Edsel... Which is harder then it sound due to it's early production and odd sized air cleaner.

one of our old time forum members here works for roush. during testing of the 07 gt500 they tried out a few air filters on the dyno. the k&n lost 7hp over the oem paper one.

Which one did they find to be the best out of them all?

i forget what else they tried,
but the paper one did the best.
haha
i'm sure most cars gain or at least stay the same.

so what do you think about these claims they make in all my stang mags about the gains of "30 more hp to the wheels in a stock 2003 ford cobra svt?" is this true? see i'm not swayed by any advertisements i see, but the gurateed part, i don't know it sounds bold. luke, i'm not trying to be a smartass here by bringing this up, but have they found gains on other stangs at all other than the gt500? i don't have a dyno or know anyone who goes on the dyno to prove them wrong so they could be making false advertisements and claims and i wouldn't know.

yeah i dunno. k&n claims something retarded like 45hp gains on a ford gt
the gt500 pretty much has a gt motor with an iron block and wet sump.
so who the hell knows
haha
ive ran a few filters. a drop in k&N used this in chevy truck that saw lots of offroad use. i found cleaning to be waste of time and eventulay threw that filter away because spending the few bucks for a throw away drop in filter is just so fast and convient. no power or milege gains on this rig.
also ran k&N exstreme on the same truck with a few other intake mods. might have noticed some power and mileage gains. but the other mods may have acounted for the gains.
the exstreme has since made its way to the 83 mustang. this filter found its way here because it cleaned up under the hood alot. ive got future plans to stick the exstreme through the hood and force feed it some air. otherwise no gains have been noticed with the exstreme on the stang.

Thr old paper filter will trap more dirt than the K&N. I've used both, no difference

I had a K&N drop in filter in my otherwise stock 03 cobra. I think there may have been a slight hp gain, but i wouldnt say it was anywhere near 30 hp.
i wonder if k&N is the choice for the desert race trucks. ive heard it may not be the best choice for desiels because like said above the dont stop as much dirt particles as other filters

It's the EEC-VI that is making the powerloss. On any EEC-VI car, my 05 'Stang included, you can't really do any mods without having to reflash the computer. MM&FF found that out when they ran their test mule without an air filter, which threw the precise A/F ratio off and they lost power.
