Are there differences in door/hatch locks between the 79-86 and 87-93 mustangs? I have an '82 and need new door/hatch/glove box locks but the only kit I can find that has all of them together is for 87-93.

We just had a big discussion on this. 87-93 door strikers will work but they are not oem correct. 87-93 Hatch strikers may also work. They all have a big black bracket on them.
If you want something that is almost exactly right, go to your Advance Auto Parts (must be an Advanced Auto) and go to the HELP section and they have the door AND the striker latches. The striker latches are a size smaller thread than the door strikers. For $21 + tax I think you can get all three. They will be an EXACT stock looking replacement except the bolt won't be gold plated.
OTHER parts stores like autozone seem to only have the 87-93 strikers.
1979 or maybe 1980 too used a different hatch locking mechanism for the hatch. But that doesn't apply for you.

Locks not strikers!
I have been able to find some take outs on eBay a few times and they have been GOOD. As for new I am not sure you will find them yet. I have no idea if there is a difference.

There is one difference in the locks I know of. 79 cars use the square ignition key in the doors, and my 84 uses the oval trunk key for the doors. I don't know when the change was made. On the 79 cars, the round key only opens the glove box and trunk, and on 84 cars, the round key does everything except the ignition.

The round face door locks used on Mustang/Capris are a common part shared with many other Ford Motor Company products. They have five pin tumblers and are available on either of the Ford five pin keys. Police and fleet vehicles use the square headed key for the doors. So do at least some trucks and vans IIRC. Anyway, you can order them on either keyway, round head or square head. They also come in bright stainless finish or black. On my '88 I popped in a police/truck lock so I could get in the driver's door with the ignition key. This was so I could open and start the car easily without removing my gloves, important during the cold, cold winters of upstate NY.
Also, the locks themselves are not handed, only the tailpieces are. The are held on by a C-clip and can be easily swapped. Just don't lose the clip, they have a tendency to fly across the room and disappear forever if you aren't careful.
