What if you twin turbo a I-6? I hear some supra's get pretty good power but I have never heard of anyone actully Doing up a stang I-6
5 Liter Mustang

i think someone on this site has a turbo I-6 project going on...
remember, supra's have Dual OverHead Cam's and such, so I wouldn't expect performance on par with the faster Supra's.

Ford already does it. Except a single turbo(as twins aren't required to make power). And its also in a Falcon... http://www.fpv.com.au/index.asp?link_id=2.440
Then there is this...
http://www.turbomustangs.com/feature_cars/willfalcon.php
Then...there is a guy in a asian country who actually put a Toyota turbo engine in an older Mustang. In his part of the country V8 parts are actually harder to come by(read expensive).
And as 5 Liter said i'm sure someone on www.fordsix.com is working on something.

A local buddy of mine is working on a 2JZ Supra motor with a TH400 in a 87-93 coupe. It should be nasty.
As for the Ford 200, good luck. The performance market for that engine is almost nonexistant. If anything, step up to the 300, which is fairly popular in Super Comp, so it has at least a little performance aftermarket base.

Something just don't seem right about putting a toyota motor in a Mustang. Maybe its just me.
Why not just get a celica or supra?

It's not a whole lot different than me currently gathering parts to put a blown 5.0/AOD in my 4x4 Toyota pickup. Its odd and its different for sure. While i wouldn't want to see it become like a 5.0 swap is in a stang, a supra I6 would be cool in one and would probably make for some GREAT performance. I'd consider a 7MGTE myself though with a 5spd manual. They are a little older engine but can make some good power easily. They aren't too expensive either. About the biggest thing I could see is mounting it and wiring it.
As far as brand mixing goes...theres only 2 things that annoy me:
people swapping chevy v8's into pontiac/olds/buick that originally had pontiac/olds/buick v8s and all those 30s/40s fords with small chevies in them. I mean come on, be a little more original.
I've actually tossed about ideas of putting a GN turbo 3.8 or even an LS1 into my 89lx.

Combining the high power capablitiy of the Toyota engine(cause its built like a tank...not high tech...although the head is DAMN GOOD)...and the good straight line performance and light weight of the Mustang.
Some people don't care about brand mixing when it achieves their goals...or gives them recogniition for doing soemthing different.

John, it's Jose Zayas that's building it. As I understand it, he might have decided to go with a 1FZ Land Cruiser 4.5L inline six now though. It's basically a 50% larger Supra motor. Reportedly somebody has one over in the UAE making 2100+ on methanol and a T-106.
I definately agree that brand swapping isn't sacrilege. I have nothing wrong with any motor in a Mustang, as long as the Mustang is winning races.

Yes, there are a few people in the UAE with loads of money and high horsepower Land Cruiser turbos. Seen a few pics and vids on Supraforums.com

There are a few turbo I6's on Ford Six forum, Linc's 200 has a turbo I6 Fox body.

Does 10's has a 63 Falcon with a turbo 250 I6 that recently ran a 11.91 in the 1/4.

Yeah they are. I used to own a 93 supra with a single turbo setup and NX. That thing was a BEAST on the top end. I miss it.
Thats what I would like to slowy bring my 84 up to what that supra was. A top end highway racer. Nothing like 80mph to 180mph+ pulls.

Well this is surprising that a forum that goes balistic to making cosmetic changes to these cars would be so accepting as putting a rice engine in a mustang.
Of course its your car so nock yourself out. If you really want to do something out of the ordinary swap in a pointiac OHC sprint engine in it from the late 60's.
Guess I'll be the loan dessenter on this one.

Yep, they sure are. We have 2 of them here at our local track that run high 9s at 140+ in the quarter. These are full on street cars, A/C and six speeds too. There's another one that runs NOPI street tire class that runs 8.40s at 179. You've probably seen it in the BF Goodrich drag radial magazine ads, its copper in color. Ask PNY XPRS, he's seen them in person as well.
You can hate imports all you want, but underestimate Supras at your own peril.

Yup...when you run across someone that CAN make Supra hook...you're in trouble.

Te best part I found about that was someone actully put in a 32Valve northstar chevy 350 in a Volts jetta, They literally had to take off the front clip to fit it in there, lets not TALK about on how the guy will change the spark plugs
cmccarthy

You have to remove the engine to change the plugs in any FWD Northstar, swap or otherwise. That engine is the reason "100,000 mile" spark plugs were invented. As a further marvel of GM engineering, it also has the starter in the lifter valley.

What are the odds the starter gives out before the plugs?

Knowing GM starters, its pretty good.

yea, but you just have to take off the intake manifold to change the starter, not as bad as it sounds, but i think that is on the aurora v8's not the northstars......

The Aurora engine and the Northstar engines share a common platform. They both have the kooky starter location.

most all of the high HP supras I've known are owned by morons who will only race from a 30-50mph roll.....why? Its hard to get power to the ground when you're using a gigantor turbo that functions as an on/off switch.
Don't get me wrong, they're cool cars. There used to be one around KC that was one of the fastest stock turbo setup non nitrous cars in the nation...still 100% street cat too.

In my opinion, if it isn't built by Ford, or one of it's primary subsidaries (think Lincoln or Mercury), it doesn't belong in a Ford. Plain and simple. Doesn't matter how fast you make it, if that Ford isn't powered by a Ford, it's not worth jack.
And yes, all those 30s and 40s Fords with 350 chevies in them annoy me. Real HotRods don't have valvecovers.

07-27-2005, 09:53 AM
Hooptie, Supras don't have hook problems, they have spool problems. Most guys don't want to race from a dig because it's so hard to get the motor spooled, and they have a severe boost dropoff on the 1-2 shift because the ratios in the tranny are so wide. If you're at 30-40mph, you can already have it in second gear at 4000 or so and strain the motor against the brake to help get the turbo spooling.
Like I said though, its all over when you find somebody that can drive.

Just as an update to this thread, Jose has elected to build his coupe using the Australian Ford Falcon twin turbo inline 6 cylinder engine instead of Surpra/LC power. They already have an engine on the way. He's securing sponsorship from FRPP for the build, and I'm sure you'll be seeing it all over the 'net in the coming months. It'll have a single T-91 from Pro Turbo Kits and Forced Inductions, as well as a C4 or 'glide and drag radials. It ought to be cool.

Cool.
I've got an idea in the back of my head to get a coupe, put a 4.0 I-6 from a truck in it and turbo the @#$ of it.
I want to have one of those motors so bad to put ina stang or hell anything even a little topaz and hit it will a little boost , I have wanted one ever since i seen this one 2 years ago in one of the bigger cities, We were sitting at a light and seen this riced out civic like fast and furious style the whole deal and i heard him rev it so we watched what was gign to happen weren`t paying any attention to the taurus beside it cuz well its taurus lol well needless to say the taurus spanked it and all i rember other than the screaming of the sho motor was the letters SHO molded in the rear bumper of the taurus i had heard of them but never witness a killin with one lol i love sleepers lol
