since my van is obviously is not a fox, looks like i need to post here. i have a 140w Pannasonic Casette player that was in my mustang. it worked well in the mustang, no complaints. Howvever, the mustang gotten an audio upgrade and so went the casette player. i decided to put the casette player in the aerostar cos it desperately needs some type of upgrade. when i cinnected everything and turned it on, everything seemed normal until i turned the volume up. thats when the sound was beginning to cut out. i never had such problem in the mustang, but why am i having it in the van? is it not getting enough power? crappy factory wiring? both?

i need to know cos i dont want to be stuck with this dumbass factory unit!!!

You need to bypass those headphone jacks... actually that whole little box. A friend that works where I work use to install stereos and said this needs to be done for the stereo to function correctly. And don't use the factory ford wiring.

Hey.... we all gotta do it eventually. I've been collecting speakers for my mothers Aerostar. I've been wanting a CD palyer in it but she's always said no. So, I've finally convinced her that on long drives it's a worth while thing to do.

Now I just need to get a cheap (but fairly good) CD player. Then tear right into the van. I wasn't going to remove the original speaker wire... just disconect it and put the new stuf in.

Good luck!

but how would i be able to not route the speakers through the front two, the two in the sides and worst of all, the speakers in the back hatch? and since the system is technically considered as a six-speaker system, how would i be able to utilize all six speakers in a system only designed for four?

I too used to have a feared 1992 3.0L Aerostar. Its not that the rear controls need to be bypassed(mine didnt need to be). Its just that the rear channel is split into four speakers instead of two. This puts the normal 4ohm load at an 8ohm load, effectively cutting the power to the rear speakers in half compared to the fronts. I needed to bias the audio to the rear by a few to balance the system out.

Your cassette deck may be such that it is incompatable with the high impedance to the rear channel and effectively citting the power attempting to not damage itself. I only had a cheapie 15x4 head usit and it worked fine. Definitly not world class sound but sound none the less.

is there anything that i can do to reduce the ohm load to make it possible to use my stereo without resorting to rewire and/or resorting two of my speakers as mere ornaments?

Yeah just don't hook up the very rear 2 speakers. or get an amp that can handle the ohm load. Even walmart has cheap jensen amps that can handle the load and make it work. RCA into the amp from teh head unit and then use a 4 channel amp with the rear 4 speakers comming off the same channel of the amp.
