yeah. a guy i work with came across one pretty cheap, i have always had an unexplainable fondness for them. is there anything special about them ohter than the body, seats and header? can anything be done to make them sweet?
this one is an 88. if anyone has any links or info about escort gt stuff, or if they were just not worth messing with, let me know.
thanks,
lucas.

Not sure if the videos work still,
But also check out his sig for a website.
If the video does not work, he pretty much mowed down a built 4 eye vert on all motor, and then almost beat him spraying. (might have won, but the camera view is horrible)

wow that almost makes me want another escort. I put a turbo motor out of a 91 probe GT into a 91 escort back in 96 or 97. What a sleeper it was. These vid's reminded me of that.

Holy crap that sounds cool! I would have never guessed it would have fit!
Just think if you added some of the stuff they know now.
These guys figured out they could make their own hybrid turbo using a 87-88 Turbo Coupe IHI compressor side and bolting it to the Probe stock IHI hot side.

Yeah the later Escorts are Mazda based and the 2.2 should fit right in there being a Mazda engine and all.

Put a fartbox on it and it will be cool.

You can certinaly turbocharge the 1.8 in the GT.
The 2.0 has been transplanted numerous times, and turbocharged as well.
Some have gone as far as put a V6 in em, and turbocharge them too.

the 88 he's talking about is a 1st gen, equipped with a 1.9 HO engine and 5-speed tranny. the ones with the 1.8 started in 91, with the body style change.

it is all said right there. It didn't take much to bolt it in. It was all the wiring and having to figure it out that was the biggest problem. And even that wasn't too hard. I just spliced all the new engine harness and computer into the old harness so everything worked. It did take some time. I had already made my own modifications to a 2.2 turbo motor that was in another identical probe I had owned. Back then we had to custom make everything our selves. luckily since it was the mazda based engine and due to rally racing in other countries there were forged pistons and a few other things that could be bought for the internals. But as far as the turbo went, you had to do it on your own. It was a fun time.
