The 2.3Ts of the Four Eyed Family here have gotten a little bit of attention recently. The RS and SVO now have non-astronomical timing
(the SVO was at 18* and the RS was at 22*!, they're now back to 10* for the moment).
And, tonight I got a wild hair and did a compression test. I would like to curse whosoever decided those big ass lumps on the top left of primary of each cylinder on the manifold were a good idea. Those serve NO other purpose than to destroy knuckles when removing stubborn plug wires. And I've got small hands.
Anyway, compression test...
Results are as follows:
#1 157
#2 150
#3 148
#4 157
And, here's the find of the night:
Spark plug #4
(mind you, Mike stole it from me and sanded it off a bit before I got these shots)

I'm half-tempted to get the VAM, ECU, injectors, although the IC probably couldn't get done by then...on for a dyno day just to see what it'll do with all that.
Before, with crappy timing and whatever else wrong, it made an Earth-rotating 113 rwhp.

Ok now I am curious, what do you do to a 2.3T to get say 300 horse?
I mean can you just buy better head's, I mean head, cam, and so on, for cheaper or around the same price as moding a 302 car. And if you can where?
Also there is a 84 gt turbo in an acution yard about 2 minutes from my house, and I want it to go to a good home......anybody that is intereasted pm me.......

School Boy, post that Turbo GT stuff up in the FYI area if you haven't already. Hopefully it can be saved!
Lew/GT350R and others on here are far better experts on that stuff than I. I'm just hoping to get this thing running right and leaking less for now :)
Check out GT350R's dyno thread in the Dyno forum. Cool stuff!

300HP in a 2.3?
Turn up the boost...turn up the fuel pressure...and cross your fingers you don't go lean.

As if it were that eawsy or cheap!
Check otu the dyno section (dont want to thread jack)
Skye, is that oil , or carbon build up?
Those look almost like the plugs I pulled out of my Grey one the day I got it. Picture 3 times more build up , and the color of sand stone.
We never did figure out what it was, but they looked like the plugs were made out of stone on the ends.
FYI, you can use your factory computer , and swap to the big VAM and 35lb injectors and it will run pretty decent. No telling what it would look like on a dyno, but in my car it ran fat down low, and pretty decent on the top end. Cheap alternative to a PE , and a whole lot easier then an LA3 swap.
Of course , for the money of all that, I am now SOLD on the EEC Tuner. Dump the VAM for a MAF you have laying around, and throw in as big of an injector as you can find.
Not to mention a PE code is just a file swap away!
All for about what a PE computer would sell for.

Me too, on my 90LX. Fresh motor making sure the rings are cool.
FWIW, compression tests with equal lengths is enough to make you jump off a bridge!

Threadjack away, if it's 2.3T related and gives me knowledge, I'm all for it.
The plug is carbon crusty and oil-preserved. Nice to have a good combination of both, eh? Yeah... :?
I have an LA3 here sitting on my desk (along with some other mystery ECU (http://www.evlgt85.com/TurboRS/puter.jpg) I just dug up in the garage). I think I also located my big VAM and the injectors on the way out there, too. Things have gotten shuffled around in the giant swap meet that is our garage/house.
I'm gonna use what I've got for now. I'm in no hurry to get the RS to any particular goal, I just want to learn about it and enjoy it whenever and however.
Though, there are occasionally EEC Tuners for sale for cheap around these parts, so if the timing is right, I may well wind up doing that. But, again, right now I'm on the steep learning curve and will play with what's here and what's cheap.
Definitely getting plugs this weekend, though...

:D I had no goal either. On dnyo day , about 10 minutes before my car went on, I said I would be happy to break 300 ;)
That computer is the original 83-84 computer.
Run that one if you dont get the intercooler on. With the big Vam and the 35lb'ers. That run the timing up to 13-14. Pretty weenie curve up ton, so a strong base timing wont hurt ya. Then again, its alot hoptter there then here. So keep an eye on it.

A LONG time ago, someone gave me a box full of electricals and things out of a long-since-dead Turbo GT. He had no idea what it was, till I shot him a production number. Then he regretted not saving it. :(
Anyway, this must be outta that 83 Turbo GT. So I'll have two 83-84 computers once I'm done  Go me!
Just never know what I'll find when I go on a mad garage excavation.
So, I could just go put the big VAM and injectors on now, and then leave the LA3 for the IC? Cool... :)
