I'm trying to find some information on the TRX tires from Michelin. Does anyone know the exact tire size (ex. 225/60vr390) that came on the TRX equipped mustangs???
Reason I'm asking is a co-worker of mine has a BMW that is equipped with the Michelin TRX tires in a 220/55vr390 size. I need to find out if they are the same size as those on the mustangs.

Those will fit. They are what I have on my pace car. I think there were two sizes that came on the mustangs.
220/55R390
and
195/65R390
The 220 size came on the later ones while the 190 size was on the earlier cars.

Originally produced for the Euro-market German built '78 Granada
On Mustangs they were 190/65HR390 from '79-'82, and 220/55VR390 for '83-'84

Ah yes all is true, but your missing the fact that they came on Pugeo's, and Ferrie Testerosa's. 8O They also made them in 410mm, but the price would eat you alive! Just so you know, michelin has since stopped making them, and coker bought the molds. They now a about $400 bucks a pop. :( Your best beat is to find someone who wants to get rid of them, and buy ever last one!
I was down town one day, and a dude walks up and say's "You like them tires?" Uh ya, why you got some? Dude, "ya come up and take your pick." This lead me to buy 4 brand spanking new 220x55x390 tires for a $100 bucks.

Michelin haven't stop the production of TRXs, but now, they are in their "vintage" catalog, so their production is pretty limited, which makes them really expensive, even here where they are built
Peugeot, Renault, Citroen, Mercedes, BMW, Ford (Europe and USA),Volvo, Ferrari (and maybe others) all used to have TRX on their sporty models (or top end, depends), usually in 390mm, but also in 340mm, 365mm and 415mm
Sizes available in the "vintage" collection for 390mm :
190/65 HR 390 (last time i asked to a Michelin representative, they planned to stop this size)
210/55 VR 390
220/55 VR 390
200/60 VR 390
240/55 VR 390

I checked Tire Rack last week for TRX tires...$211 each. In the fine print it says they are currently unavailable, but there was an estimated availability of 08/15/05.
Here's a link.

TRX stands for Tension Répartie (Distributed Tension) :

We have a winner!
Though I've never found what the X actually stood for, I always assumed that it was X as in "cross" as in Distributed Tension X (cross), or Tension Répartie X

What I found from the Michelin site:
the radial tyre was first marketed as the “X” tyre in 1949
No explanation was given to the meaning of "X" except that it was the name given to their new radial tire.
