Well last night on my (usual) drive home from my moms place (about 200 miles from my house) and was about 1/4 of the way back, when a deer jumped out in front of the car.

All I saw was the head poke out in front of the windshield, then an explosion of deer guts. I was going (a tad) over the speed limit, but neither Ash, or myself saw the thing coming.

There was a car beside us and I guess I never thought to look when he sped off ahead of us.

Anyways, after the impact, I kinda thought to myself "What the hell was that?". I kept the car under control the whole time, and I do remember swerving to the left a bit (deer came from the passenger side), we were in the fast lane, so it was safe to swirve into the shoulder. I think the swerving, and the fact that I never even saw the thing until a split second before, may have saved our lives. When I swerved the deer hit the corner of the front bumper, exploded (or what had seemed like it) and disappeared into thin air (ie. The ditch on the right hand shoulder 8O )

Well after the hit occured I gave myself a minute to process what had happened, then pulled onto the shoulder at an exit ramp about 1/2 KM down the road. Ashley burst out into tears for a good while while I surveyed the damage.

Well here it is.. Only need a new passenger side fender, a hood, and (maybe) a passenger door, as the lip just rolled a bit). Also need a new pass. headlight, and pass. marker lamp. Otherwise everything was fine. No frame damage that I could see, but I guess we'll see what the body shop says.

Anyways after all that I limped the car back to the nearest Police dettachment, and filed a report, the officer was very nice about it, considering it was afterhours. He also made some jokes at Ash's expense *snicker*.

#1
Ash "We hit a deer!"
Cop " WHAT!? YOU KILLED BAMBI!!"
Ash *Crying*

#2
Cop "well, now that all the insurance paperwork is done I'm going to have to write you a ticket"
Ash "What!? Why? *Starts crying again*"
Cop "For hunting without a licence *laughs*
Me *Holds in burst of laughter*

Anyways, I forgot to mention, the Stang wasn't hurt, it was Ash's Sunfire.

It does suck that Ash's new car needs to be fixed already though, I feel bad about the whole thing, but I'm just glad she's okay.

Just thought I'd share with you guys.

Damn man... Sorry to hear that.

Out here in the westside of Los Angeles we don't need to worry about those deer.... just idiot drivers.

Yeah, you still run the risk of hitting Bambi...of course she's an aspiring actress in a Isuzu Rodeo.

I hit a deer less than a week from my trip to australia last october. I was heading to my older sister's acreage (3/4 of the way there) and a couple of deer ran in front of my crown vic. I was doing the speed limit (100 km/h)and as soon as i saw them i hit the brakes but too late. Luckily the deer that i hit was a young one and hit hit mostly on the driver's side of the bumper. Took out the headlight assembly, grille, fiberglass support for the headlights, bent the leading edge of the hood slightly and bent the radiator support slightly.

It happens and like 82stanggt said be glad it didn't go through the windshield. It's just the deductible and not your life.

Anyway, sorry to hear about it.

PS: It was oddly fascinating to see the deer to its impression of a nerf ball after hitting my car. I went to check on the deer and it was still alive but I didn't have anything to put it out of it's misery.

I felt a bit bad about that but *shrug* i couldn't do anything about it.

I hit this one doing around 140km/h...

Like I said, it's head pretty much blew up. I'm 99.99% sure it was dead..

I know a guy that accidentally hit a deer. The animal had two broken legs... that ment death for the deer. So, he grabbed the closest large rock and bashed it's brains in.

He then felt "why waist good meat?" and promptly gutted the deer and mounted it on his car. A cop had pulled him over and asked him about it. Once told about the accident... the cop let him go.

This thread reminds me of an episode of the Young Ones where they meet this dude named Bambi.

Sure, "accidently"

He hit it to collect insurance and get cheap meat, that's what really happened, ISN'T IT!!!

I have a buddy that built a full size dodge with quite a set a KC's for such activities. You hit it you get to keep it (if you didnt burst the organs to bad - dont want to eat poisoned meat)

He drives around in the off season and if he sees one he hits the lights and floors it. 8O Technicaly its not jacking deer

8)

Back when they were new a friend of mine had just bought a new Escort EXP. He and another friend were driving home at night and all he saw was movement and he hit the deer.

Totalled the EXP, put my friend in the hospital with 16 stiches and the deer got up and walked away (presumably to die later from internal injuries). His friend was unhurt.

I live in Indianapolis. Just south of Indy is Brown County State Park. Down there Deer multiply like rats. They have had open killings on deer just to cull the numbers down.

My cousin rounded a corner in his Caprice one night to find a cow standing in the road. The cow rolled all the way over the top of the car, crushing the roof and breaking every piece of glass in the car (at the same time filling the car full of manure). He stopped, looked in the rearview mirrow, and watched the cow stand up and walk off. He luckily wasn't hurt.
