Here is my 86GT Mustang (with t-tops). I bought her about 2 years ago. I have been working on her when i get the time/money. She has an 89 5.0 motor and 89 interior (no i didn't change the interior the previous owner did so no flaming on that)

Well it shows before during and after paint. It turned out decent. Shaved antenna/emblems. Its not perfect and a few things didn't go as planned but all in all it looks good.
Heres the pics(and my other car/daily driver is in there):

Looks like a nice car. What's with the suede black paint? Is it supposed to look like that?

yah thats what i meant when i said didn't come out as planned but i'm still happy. When i painted the door jams and hatch it was perfect nice and smooth and glossy. Then painted the car the next day and it has that not smooth look to it.

i did wetsand the hood with 2000 grit...didnt do crap so i polished it out..think i should try wetsand 1500 and maybe try pulling off the spoiler and sand under it(we painted it with the spoiler off)?

Take it to a bodyman and let them wetsand it. If there's enough paint on the car, they'll get the shine out.

I sprayed it 3 times(=3 coats) with 15/20 minutes between each coat.I'll take to a body shop and see what they think. :)

Wet sand with 1000 grit then hit it with 1500 then hit it with the buffer take you time and stay off the edges ( use 3/4 masking tape on edges will help from burning just do small area at time. other then that looks good. what type of paint is it and quality of thinner or reducer will effect finish.

what were the weather condfitions when you painted and what kind of paint did you use also did you clear coat it and if not was the paint two stage or single. all could effect finish of paint esp. humidity.

Here is another pic of the headlights
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a148/My86GT/IMG_4427.jpg
I got them off of this site: http://www.altezzawarehouse.com/cgi-bin/altezzawarehouse/process
They are at the bottom of the page. They make the car look alot different then the stock yellowish headlights.

Also they have the Weld wheels on summit for around $160 a piece.

It was dry and hadn't rained in like a week or so.Wasn't real humid or anything. It was nice outside not cold nor warm perfect for t-shirt and shorts. It was a single stage polyurethane. No clear coat.

got a question on your cage.

it looks to be tied into the t-top mounting points. is this something that the cage had one you bought it. or did you modify it and fabricate bracket to tie it to the corners.

or is this a completly owner fabricated cage. it looks very well made either way you did it.

if you have any pics with the glass out id love to see them.

thanks

Evan

mean lookin ride dude. The triple black is nice too. I give you alota props for painting it yourself. I have tried on small body parts and it aint as easy as it looks. lol.

What kinda rearend are you runnin? It the car pretty streetable?

And do you have any close up picts of the rool bar mounting locations? I have wanted to install one in my 85gt hatch but I couldnt get enough info on what interior parts you gotta cut up to get the bar bolted down good.

Thanks and nice car.

How do you mean by rearend? its the stock 8.8 with 3.73 gears and 255 tires on the back. I can get you some pictures of where i mounted the roll bar(except where i bolted it on the wheel wells because the plastic is melted around the bar). I had to cut around the bar in the back and melt the plastic back together (as you can see in the pics) It was a pretty easy install, it just took time (a few hours). I drive her on the weekends as long as its not raining. I'm 18 and it took me a year and a half to get her to where she is now. I Have owned 5 Mustangs and this is the best of them yet. i drove in the mountains with the tops off yesterday and it doesn't get much better than that(well if gas was cheaper it would help)! anyways thanks for the compliments and i'm hoping this winter i will get time to wet sand and get her all smooth!
Jason
p.s.<joelliot> where did you get that chin spoiler on your car? that looks sweet!

joelliott
08-30-2005, 12:47 AM
OK thanks for the info. So the bar install wasnt too bad? I just didnt wanna tear up a bunch fo my interior parts to get the thing installed. Maybe a Jyard set of interior panels would be in order along with some interior dye. Did it help to stiffin up the chasis any or was it not really felt?

Yeah what I meant about the rearend was the axle and gear. Tells alot about how the car is run ad used. :burnout:

The chin spoiler is off a newer Mach I. There are a couple threads here about it. I really like the look. But you do have to drill up the bumper cover some (which I didnt like) and if your ride is lowered at all itll hit on driveways and speedbumps. I have a couple cracks in it now from the above. Id love to have an aluminum one fabed up but thats all just wishes. I have thought about recently tryin to fit a new repo spoiler off a 60-70 stang but just havent had th time.

Good Luck. And if you could shoot me a pict of that bar mounting id appreciate it. email is joelliott82@hotmail.com or just post here. Whatever is easiest for you dude.
Have a good one.
Joe E.
