View Full Version : HVAC Frustration

Everything is so bloody BROKEN on my car.
Anyways....the HVAC is a tight fit on these cars (total understatement I know) and I was trying to get mine bolted in and determined that the cable that goes to move the vents is just in the way....and not working.
So I unhooked it from the HVAC controls and used some lithium grease at the heater and got it moving the vents a WHOLE lot better.
So my question is....how is it SUPPOSED to loop back to the controls. Does the cable loop ABOVE the bracket where one end is connected to the heater or BELOW the bracket?
Second question....the @#$^@$#^ other end of the vent cable is missing the $#%@#$% "slip nut" thing....that nasty little metal piece of junk with a slot in it that holds it to the HVAC controls. What kind of replacement do you guys make? I'm sure somebody has lost theirs too. Can you THREAD the little post and put a real honest to god nut on it?
I hope the retard that designed this half mechanical, half electrical and half vacuum control panel gets what he deserves.

Most hardwares have those push-nuts, but i don't know if they go down that small. :| I have taken mine out before and i also hate it, and to tell you the truth i can't remember which way the cable goes. I guess just find the most neutral location where the cable moves the easiest, and the cable is out of the way of everything?

Can't somebody take a gander under their dash and see?
I can probably bend it either way but want to make sure I'm "forcing" it in the right direction.

Sure, but the back of the HVAC control on this car is enclosed in plastic
You can't see any of it
Or am I mis-understanding?
...I'll go out there and check anything you want, I've got good access - no interior except the dash, which is factory and never been out
But I don't think I can see what you want

What I'm looking for is how the cable loops back from the heater...not how it attaches to the hvac.
The cable connection at the heater actually points the cable at the passenger side....so to get it back around to the HVAC, it has to make a big loop.
I just want to know whether it loops over or under the connection to the heater box.

Well this one here is w/o a doubt under
It even still has a ...uh...mounting clip of some sort still attached

Yup, away from the HVAC control
so to get it back around to the HVAC control, it has to make a big loop.
Yup loops right around
I just want to know whether it loops over or under the connection to the heater box.
Under
Hangs down right "in front of" the blower motor if you're in the passenger seat and clips to the "feet" air vent as it travels toward the tranny hump
It then shoots up toward the HVAC control
It's pretty straight forward as I'm looking at it
There is only one cable connection on the heater that faces the wrong way
If you want a pic let me know before dark..

It almost looks like an old school version of one of those 3M Command clips
The ones for routing electrical cords
