speedometer cable question

ok, on my speedo cable(trans side) there is an electrical connector that has 2 wires(unsure of color, they were greasy) and i was wondering if that was for the curise control or what? also can i switch my 84cable with one out of an 82? the clip that holds it on to the speedometer gauge is broken and it won't stay on is why i ask...thanks all

what kind of trans is in the 82...mine is a 79 w/86 t-5 and its got the 79 speedo cable it is to short

Yes that is the VSS wire. It is for cruise control.

thanks for the verification max! and the trans thats in mt 84 is a 86 t-5 the trans that was in the 82 is the same
