View Full Version : Antifreeze vapor from the vents?

Ok, there's no antifreeze in the floorboard anywhere but you can see the vapor when you turn on the heat/defrost. It fogs the windows up, just a general inconvenience. I had a '78 280Z that did something similar and there was some type of valve up under the dash on the passenger side that I replaced. Serious pain in the arse to get to but it solved the problem. Is there a similar valve in the 'Stang that I can replace to remedy this situation?
Thanks

You say that like it's a tough replacement, what gives? ;)

It's not a hard job, just time consuming and frustrating. Replacing your head's with a set of AFR's is more difficult that a heater core, but replacing the head's is fun. :D

If you do not have AC it is a 5 minute job.
If you have AC it is a 2-4 hour job.
With ac, you have to drop the dash away.

Bypass your heater core untill you can get it fixed. It's not healthy to be breathing antifreeze fumes & it will be easier to clean up the mess.

I just replaced all my heater hoses and destroyed my heater core doing it. I went to NAPA and got a new heater core and had it in in 13 minutes. Man I love no A/C. I would use that write up in the link above when you decide to adventure to do it. I too would wait until fall to do it. Leave yourself plenty of time and make sure you have the proper tools to do the job.

just to let you know... you do not have to remove the dash to get to the heater core... I've replaced five heater cores in 5 different cars in my time and it's not really hard. A bit of a PITA maybe... but not hard. Just move the dash forward with wires attached (not the speedo though).
Just follow the directions in the haynes/chilton manual (most of them anyways).
at some point I'll be doing my 6th heater core change... it'll be for the LTD LX I just bought.
Jeremy's write up is a good one though.
But for somebody that's never done this before expect about a day or so.

I'm off the whole week of the 4th of July so I'll likely do it then.

Good idea. Maybe call some friends over (the ones that have car knowledge...) because extra hands are always a good thing!
