The pre-cat (the one on the head pipes) on my 85 looks like it's had a partial meltdown..
Do you think it'll cause any emissions issues to gut the pre-cat?
I live in an IM240 testing area (running dyno test)

I have a new main cat.. The cat kit they sell that includes new head pipes does not have a pre-cat. (same cat as I have, I just didn't get the head pipes)

On the bright side I found another exhaust leak..
No gasket between the flapper valve and header.

If you bought one of the "new & improved" 3-way catalytic converters,(like offered by Magnaflow); no. If you purchased the "old" factory type 2-way cat; you will have to buy\install a new pre-cat to pass IM240....

Just got off the phone with the techs at catco (1-800-247-2515 btw)

The 4159 cat uses a universal 2.5" 3 way cat.. Its ok to gut the pre-cat.
The guys on the Summit tech line said no but I got em to give me the Catco phone number. It pays to go to the source I guess.

Cool! :D
