What gauge of sheet metal do you use for weld in patches? Any particular grade of metal that's best?

The stuff I sell for that is 22 gauge .(So I've been told)

Just cold rolled steel (CRS) is fine. Nothing pre plated like galvanized or aluminized.
The thickness should be close to what you are patching. It is easier to weld that way. Most body panels are around .030" (22 ga). Fairly common stuff.
