T top to non T top?

I have to replace my roof skin at some point in time. It is going to be hell trying to find a nice rust free T top roof skin here in canada. T tops are cool and all but if I go to the trouble of changing the roofskin I might aswell save my self the time and hassle of loosing the t tops.

Is it as simple as removing the t top skin and using a hard top skin in its place?

I'd say no, you'd probably need to replace the whole roof, and the doors too. Why not use a roof skin off of a non t-top car to fix the roof you have now? The rear part of the skin should be the same.
