View Full Version : I think I found a '79 pace car in the wrecking yard

It was repainted black but under the black paint above the moulding was Pewter paint and below the side moulding was black. It had a sun roof (sun shield and gromments MIA), what looked like an '82 nose, and an '82 hood with the '79 pace car hood scoop/cowl.

Should I have grabbed the cowl? It wasn't in perfect shape. I think it was put on an '82 hood because the original one was bashed in an accident. Why I think it was an '82 hood? well, it had a cut out with some small holes around it in the pattern the '82 hood scoop would use. Plus the hood used to be red.

The cowl was cracked (1-2" long) in 5 spots (probably from the previous accident) and it looked like some one used what ever bolts they could find to attach it to the hood. The hood emblem was DOA. The plastic is so cloudy you can barely make out the outline of the running horse.

If anyone thinks it's worth it I could try to grab it this next weekend but it's kind of big and it's probably not in the best of shape. I couldn't see what it looked like underneath.

If you can get the VIN number, that would definately tell if it's a Pace Car or not.

VIN:

9R03F481677

Oh, Marchel (sp?) Foglights were in bad shape, one lens was busted. Steering wheel was missing. Front seats looked like they may have came from a later Mustang.

A "48" in the CUN (last six characters of the VIN) means it's a Pace Car.

Oh bummer! I hate seeing the special cars in wrecking yards. I was hoping it was a car someone made a Pace car clone with.

Well, it's probably going to be gone by the end of the week. Steel is a premium now days.

Thanks for the verification!
