I am looking for a pair of clear headlight covers for my 82. I want to mimic the Miami Vice Ferrari 365 front in my own way. I was thinking of simply making them out of plexiglass (Lexan, whatever) but thought I would check to see what others have done.
I can't decide if I want my covers to be angled or straight up and down...But I want them clear, not smoked...maybe even lined like the Mad Max car???
I checked the archives and this was the only usable link:

Is there a picture of these things? Are they worth the $50?

I had actually made sets of just what you are wanting abut 6 months ago. i sold them for next to nothing. I really only wanted one set for my car but after all the requests I made about 50 sets and sold them all. I unfortunately dont; have any left, but I can tell you how i made mine. I made a carb board cut out of my opening. Then a guy at a sign shop put that into his computer. We then cut a set out using a cnc machine. We checked for fitment and made adjustments where neccissary. Finally we gfot a product that fit great. It took about 5 trys to get it perfect.

Is there a difference between '79-'82s and '83-'86s?

Yes, the openings are different. The 83 and up have a more natural opening that lends itself to being covered for that 86-aero look. (I like that by the way). The early models are more blocky.

Y dont you get the ones from 85 notch and at least use then as a template for your clears??? Hes oferin them up to ya. I may also have a pict of freaks product somewhere. I have the clears for my 85 gt from GTS but I have never put them on. I kinda dont wanna cover up the natural 4 eyed beauty of my stang. But you never know. I might run em. i also have the complete smoked rear set sittin next to me too. But Im alittle worried the lights wont be bright enuf. good luck to ya tho.

Joe, check yours to even see if they fit, I bought some of that GTS junk, and they're not even the same shape as the headlight opening.
BTW, did you ever find out what happened to those spindles I sent you?

if you have raccoon eyes they wont look right but if your recesssed area is the same color as the body then the clears look awsome

Thanks for the offer. That's ok though. From what I am hearing, it seems like covers are really kind of "faddy" or sort of like bras...cool at first then people quickly tire of them. Perhaps the fact there are few pictures of anyone with a 79-82 with them on that stands to reason they are kind of goofy.
OK, I'll go back to my basic plan: if it makes the car perform better go fir it. Otherwise, I am starting to enter into import tuner territory (scary!).
Cheers and thanks again!

LOL... Yeah, they totally take away from the look of the car IMO (well they did on mine anyways) ... To me they are just taking up space.

my lenses are clear and for the most part flat. You can't even tell they are on teh car unless you are at a every odd angle. My whole goal was not to loose the 4 eyed look, but make it a little more aero dynamic.

i did the same thing as ford freek.....it was hard to tell they were there....although they were on for only a couple days because the tab's that hold them on the inside of the headlight buckets were broken and so i just temporarily used dbl. stik tape to see what they would look like...they look cool and all and personally i think they need to be on my car cuz i switched my 84 nose and hood to the pace car stuff i had, i don't think it looks right with out them

I have had them on both my cars for yrs and love the look. Makes the front if you ask me. Being clear, they don't stand out.

My front clears seemed to fit well. They were pretty darn close to the exact contour of the light area. I just didnt wanna loose the recessed 4 eyed look. I love it and not many people around here have nice clean 4 eyeds. But I also hat the amount of bugs that get cought in the light area. So its a toss up. To this point I have them here in my room still in the box. Donno if Ill install them ever or not. lol
Travis, I finally got the spindles today. Thanks. Ill PM you.

Joe that is why I made my flat light panels. You can;t even tell they are on teh car and the look was not affected at all. I own a 4 eyed car out of choice. I want that look to remain. AS you rememebr I went to great lengths to make the sets I made. I saved a couple sets for myself :)
