I just got my 4 inch Cowl Induction Hood from Cervinis and was reading over some of the paper it had on it.
I was just wondering if anyone that has purchased a Fiberglass Hood may be able to give me some info about Preping for paint.
The Info on the site says the Hood needs to be cleaned to remove any form of Mold Release contaminants. Then it says that the Hood will need to be dulled, so to use a product like Ajax on the area to be painted. Then you can add your primer coats and so on.
Is that the basic idea for it ? any tips or suggestions ?

You should read the writeup that Calon did... you will need to buff down the hood using something like red scotch pad, then you will have to prime it of course, but you MUST use the adheasion promoter and flex additives or your paint is just going to flake away... Its good aswell to speckle the hood down after you primer it will a black and sand it afterwards using 600 or higher sand paper with a Palm or DA sander. Then if a low part shows up it will show inperfections in your hood which at that point you will be able to fix.

yes adhesion promoter is a good idea, although not absolutely necessary because u are already scuffing the gel coat to give the primer some bite...but i would use it anyways tho
