I have an 84 GT t-top car , and as most know the spring in the visor pivot is junk , and when ever I accelerate , I get hit in the head by the visor. I've removed the driver side for now . My question is this , has any one here ever installed the 87 style visor into the earlier cars , and do you think of this like an areo nose conversion ? thanks

No, but what I did, was get the visor clips from a Capri and replace mine with those (you have to snip the plastic guide).
Reason being, the Stang ones clip in from the bottom, the Capri ones clip in from the side closest to the windshield.
No more visor hitting me in the face!!

I have later visors in my '86 GT. The vanity mirror lights are wired too.

I have a sunroof in my '83 Capri and have the same problem. I took off the visor and messed around with the mechanism some to increase the drag. It still wants to slide back on hard launches, but it is slow enough I don't worry about getting hit.

I get smacked guarenteed its annoying as hell. I have taken mine out and seen that its the spring... but I am not sure about how to fix it up. Going to take a look and see about it... but its not a real priority for myself at this time.

I have those, they wont help much. I have the later style visors and the drivers side one swings down some.

I'm telling you guys, if you have the visors that clip in, GET CAPRI CLIPS.

I've got the swinging visor in the 82 now.. I'll see if I can fix them at all, since Justin just takes the easy way out and takes them out :P

I took it out too see how it worked! ;) They are back in there smacking my noggin every hard acceleration lol. Its emberassing lol. I already know how to fix them I just need to find a very strong spring to replace the other spring and then a good set of need nose pliers.
 I would not want you to hurt yourself trying to do something for me ;)

Haha!! Hurt myself... you... anyone in the vicinity... sure, however you wanna put it :P
Why not simply stretch the original spring? :P

mine do not clip ,just that weak spring . and it does not take any kind of a "launch" t o make them swing , even the wind blowing thru the windows will make them hit you , (well not me as I took mine out ) Ash

Get some hard plastic washers at a hardware store, and split them on one side. This is so you can slide them on the shaft between the spring and the washer, which will tighten up the spring and keep them from flopping.

That should do it nicely too! Hrm... now to just get off my duff and do it.

I like that plastic washer idea. Yeah, you can blame the Fairmont for those cheapo visors. My '89 Hatch has the clip which keeps the visor in place but the fabric came off the vanity mirror cover which went DOA on the previous owner. When the visor is down, the dang cloth hangs down and blocks my view. Half a dosen of one, six of the other!

I know for a fact that the washer trick works, I've used it before. The springs just seem to wear out over time.
