Much cleaning and fiddling to be done, but here's what Sterns look like on a very dirty 85 GT:

looks awesome...

but two things that might make it look better (IMO)

it needs some center caps (i bet you saw that comming)
and i think it should be power-coated black with chrome lug nuts (so it'll make it more saleen-esque)

Centercaps are coming as soon as a design is decided upon.

Took a while because of all the other crap going on around here. Spent Jan getting my Crappee running. Worked every day for the month of Feb. March only had two weekends off....

i hear ya mike. i finally had a day off yesterday and i put my motor back together. today i felt like playing some video games and eating my face off so i didn't get anything done besides trying to desipher a 93 mustang harness and how i'm going to custom wire my AEM into it.
i should just order a painless wiring muscle car kit and be done with it.

Freaking sweet. :D

That last pic could be used in a "GOT STANCE?" commercial.

Ride height is right on, fender clearance looks tight (as it s/b), and then there's just the coolness factor of the wheels themselves. :tu:

Oh, and if those pics are of a dirty car... ...I am afraid to see what clean looks like! 8O

What size meats in the rear, 275's? (Or did I miss that detail somewhere?)

Thanks guys. Just having these wheels is a HUGE deal to me. I can't believe I'm finally going to have real brakes and the Stern wheels I've drooled about for so damn many years.

Still need to bleed the brakes a bit, the front sway bar is actually going back on the car, and I need to fiddle with the carb to keep it from dying when I clamp down on the binders, but I was able to drive it around the block (about four miles here) without incident yesterday. It was fantastic.

When the time comes to get the wheels refinished, I'm going to likely get them done charcoal to match the trim. We'll see. Centercaps will be coming once we've got the CNC machines in the garage.

This Friday is my 9th anniversary with the car, so this is coming together just in time. :)

More pics to come when the car is actually cleaned up. There's mud and drip spots from the garage door opening in the rain and dust and grime and blah all over the poor thing. As always, it photographs far better than what it really looks like in person.

umm why nto just use the correct center caps? Since the wheels werre made for saleens they shol dhave the saleen center caps. i have the 4 lug version with out the allen bolts in them. hard to see the centercaps but it is the best pic I have at teh moment.

Since the car isn't a Saleen nor trying to be, I don't have any reasons to put Saleen caps on it. Also, the three-piece Sterns did not necessarily come with Saleen centercaps as the Speedlines and Speedline-like Sterns did. This one isn't the greatest pic, but you can sort of see the "crest" type caps that are correct for these wheels: http://www.myscsaleen.com/images/threepiecesterns.JPG

You can also see these have the crests as well:
http://classifieds.stangnet.com/showproduct.php?product=6584&sort=1&cat=all&page=1

And here:
http://phatty.clanmcp.com/adam/SaleenSC/SternWheel.htm

Since we'll have the capability to make something cool and unique, and different variations, if desired, to see what looks best, we're going to have some fun and try different things. The wheels came without caps and are not in perfect condition, so there's no feeling of obligation to make them from-the-factory perfect.

That's an impressive amount of tire out back. Those rims look excellent.

I spy a 2001 vintage Caintmakit Racing sticker. 8O

WOW! 8O I've been waiting for those pic's and the wait was definitely worth it. 8) Those rims are gorgeous and the tires out back fill the wheelwells nicely. You've got very good taste.

you are right abut the crest. i remember that as soon as i started reading your post. I think it would be fun to make your own cetner caps and be able to do what you want.

Looks great. At first, I was jelous of your wheels. Then I read this:
Centercaps will be coming once we've got the CNC machines in the garage.

One: My garage sucks, so that makes me jealous. Two: CNC machines? In the garage? Now I'm really jealous. I have to leave mine at work. Even then its only a punch press so I cant make any really cool stuff (however, being a two-axis, its easier to program).
