Anyone here explore abandoned buildings?

Last night, I got together with some friends and after a bit of boredom, we decided to go explore this 5 story hotel downtown called the Townsend Hotel. It was opened in the 20s and closed in the 80s after a fire damaged some of the rooms. It's been closed since then, and maintenance just stopped happening. The front doors are sealed off with boards, but there's an entrance in the back. It's supposed to be lock, but people always break the locks to go inside. Once inside you face a large room, the floor covered in rubble and dead pigeons. Connected to that is a room with a couple small skylights that let in an eery gray light from the sunset. The ceiling is falling apart and wallpaper hangs off of it. The next room is fairly large and leads to the lobby.

The lobby still has the desk so we made it look like we were checking in and got a pic on my friend's phone. Exploring the building was like playing a survival horror game, checking through all the rooms and corridors. We looked in the elevator shaft, down at the elevator which now sits several inches into the basement floor after it crashed 5 stories. We found a stairwell that led onto the roof, which is not too sturdy at all so we headed back. We found a room with the windows broken out that overlooks downtown which gave a cool view. We started heading back and almost got lost. The lobby looked a lot different because we didn't come back the same room. However, we got oriented again and my friend almost stepped on a weak part of the floor. We were going to enter the basement but my friend's girlfriend was scared so we jsut left. I want to go back with my digicam and get some pics of it.

Man, you wanna' try something that may get really freaky? Bring a voice recorder with a fresh blank tape. Let it record the whole time you are there.

Then, when you get home, play it back. It's been proven EVP can be captured that way. It gives me the chills just thinking about it 8O

Some guys up here at college explore the old state mental institutions here in PA. They post all their video and pics on websites. I wish I could remember what they were. The pics were nuts. With the reformation of health services over the years, most of the "State Hospitals" were closed during the 70s and 80s. These buildings (in their heyday) were beautiful brick structures with nice landscaping around them. Today, most are just shells of buildings with tall weeds around them. I have seen pictures. Just the fact that they were mental institutions just makes it all the weirder!!!

I would love to see pics of this hotel. It sounds like a large building that really was ornate back in the day. Be safe!

Be careful. Take some protection with you, as my friends did this and were assaulted....

Thankfully, one found a baseball bat and the attackers ran off...

And yes, ghosts are real.

awesome right in my backyard. I drive by here all the time. People have been breaking into Byberry Mental hospital since the late 80's when it shut down. My parents had a neighbor who was committed and died in this place.

back in the late 80's when death metal was huge, people used to go here and do all kinds of so-called rituals, etc. Now it's filled with transients and god knows what else. it's still easily accessible off a major routeway and they didn't do much to block it off.

Me and some friends of mine explored a big old abandoned mill that was built some time in the 1800s.

Heres a good link to an abanded sanatorium http://www.mountainsanatorium.net/default.htm

My mom suspects that my grandmother went to this place in the late 1930s - early 1940s. My grandmother lived fairly close to this place and when she was a little girl she was sent to a hospital in the mountains because she had tuberculosis. This hospital was originaly ment for treating people with tuberculosis and was located in the mountains.

That is a great website and has wild stories of visitors from the 80's through the final demolition in 2002.

Academia - Old Girls' School - Destroyed by fire in 1800s...Reports of little girl crying and sobbing...reports of sickening feelings felt...reports of a man dressed in black....reports of cars not starting...reports of dogs with red demon eyes.

Now that one is scary.

EDIT: This one too

Smithtown - Beggs House - There once was an old man who was murdered in the Beggs house. Now his restless spirit wanders the mansion on all 4 floors. The cops have been getting called about this for years. But anyone who goes in never comes out.

Wow, that's some nice real estate. Many of those old places have some really neat architecture. Maybe they could be renovated and turned into mansions... kinda funny to just let them sit.
