After I reinstalled the old speedo cable with a new one,
The new one melted right in the same spot the old one broke.
Right next to the steering rack, close to exhaust, maybe that's what melted it.
Anybody else have this problem?
Quick fixes? on to cable number 3 tomorrow.

shaft

Ok that clears up few things.

Is the speedo cable mounted in stock location?

If the answer is a yes then check your engine tune and exhaust system. Something is not correct there because speedo cable in factory stock location lasted over 100k miles or more.

If the answer is a no then reroute the cable to factory stock location.

I had that happen once. I use a couple tie-straps and strapped the new cable away from the exhaust system, I have had no problems so far.

I don't know where the stock location is. It routes through two clips, one under hood against driver side near steering shaft and one under car.
Bought a new one and wrapped it in insulative coating and tucked as much in behind gauges as possible. also wrapped around a bolt in car.
I guess i'll see if this fixes it.

my cable melted down below though
by my heat rised block / valve on the drivers side...,
probly cause i only j/b welded the tiny holes, i 'll bet heat blew that plug right out and the head melted my cable
