I'm trying to work out some of the little problems on my car that have been bugging me. The stock water temp and oil pressure gauges do not work. The speedo, tach and fuel level guages do work. Is there something that goes bad on these gauges that causes them not to work. I had one of the 85 mph gauge clusters and upgraded to the 140 mph cluster. Both do the same thing.

Well, you could have 1 of 3 problems. First off it could be something as simple as bad sender units. Your oil pressure or coolant gauges could simply be malfunctioning. You could also have maybe some wiring that is loose, damaged, or disconnected. Lastly, you may have damage to your greenish-colored printed circuitry on the back of the instrument cluster.
Despite what some people will tell you, it is NOT your instrument voltage regulator that is to blame. IF that were the cause, it would affect your gas gauge as well. Since that works, it is not the IVR.

Check if the leads are hooked up in the engine bay before you do anything else ;)

The leads are definetly hooked up in the engine bay and are the right wires. I kinda doubt that both senders are bad and that both the 85 and 140 gauge clusters are bad, but anything is possible. I just wanted to see if there is another possibility before I start replacing stuff. Is it possible that something needs to be grounded? My gauge cluster is kinda just hanging there until I get the dash finished up.
