Hey guys, newbie here.
I'm posting for a cousin of mine. He has an 84 CFI, AOD car that he is looking to swap to a carb'd set up. I've found a few links to a few informative sites but I still have a question or two.
Can the stock computer be completely removed if he wants to use a mechanical pump and still use the AOD without any issues? He would like to completely clean up the engine bay and remove whatever he can as far as the wiring is concerned.
Thanks for your help, this looks to be an awesome site!!

Since there wasn't any computer management involved with the AOD untill the mid-90' s, pulling the computer will not affect the way that tranny works. However, you may run into some issues hooking up the throttle end of the TV control rod since there weren't any carbed Mustangs that came from the factory equiped with AOD's. This can be a problem since proper adjustment of the TV rod is critical to the life of the tranny.

Look for a carb'ed 80's ford truck or van with an AOD... they'd have the TV linkage hook up your looking for. corse... most you find will have an automatic
I grabbed a 4180C from an 85 Ford Van and was going to use it on my 79 Futura untill it got wrecked.

I did the conversion from CFI to carb and completely removed the computer and alot of the wiring. I followed a lot of the instructions from the link posted above. It was very helpful. I went with an electric fuel pump and bought the Lokar kickdown cable for the AOD. Summit sells the cable needed check the link below.
