The first Mustang mag I looked at had one that a police officer put what i remember to be an FE. It's been quite some time so I could be wrong.

It's more original for sure but FE stuff has got to be the most expensive Ford stuff out there (making an assumption) atleast in pushrod V8 production engines.

I think that the Y-block would be more expensive. Heh. And the V8-60 Flathead, maybe.

They stopped making the FE in 1969 or so, right? That'd make 'em very hard to find in any junkyard.

76, my friend in the trucks. FE's are abundant as hell.

FE's are the only Ford motor made,(in large & readily available quantities), with thick cylinder walls. They are very plentiful; many trucks through the 70's has 360-390cid FE motors. If you look carefully; you'll find alot of Jeep Grand Cherokee's have Ford 390's in them up until '80 or so....;) Edelbrock recently premiered Performer aluminum heads for FE's. Go to a big swap meet & see how many FE aluminum intakes are available. The 391 heavy duty FE truck motors have a forged steel crank that is popular with us old timer's to grab & have machined for a serious street motor(crank snout needs to be ground down to the passenger car harmonic balancer size & rebalanced). Grab a 428 crank to throw into your 390 to make a 410cid "Merc motor". The only drawback to an FE motor is size\fitment into a non-FE equipt vehicle & thier hefty weight.....

The weight kills this idea, a Fox Mustang would push like a truck with that 750 pound chunk over the front wheels.

the fe is actually lighter than a 385 (429-460) engine(about 610-620 lbs).the 385 is about 720. with aluminum heads, etc you can take a LOT of weight off them

Ford stop making FE engine in the late 76 .

What kills the FE is emission and fuel economy. It is very difficult for FE engine to pass emission while maintaining good fuel economy. :(

Yep, that's the same reason I wouldn't put a 385 series engine in a Fox too. The 390 in my mom's 67 Galaxie weighs close to that 750, it's all cast iron.

Those FE's are very heavy. I had a truck in high school with one in it. We rebuilt the motor and my dad stood there as I tried to turn the motor on the stand. I got it half way, then it threw me almost to the ground.
It got pretty bad gas mileage to. But gas was like 80 cents a gallon then so it wasn't to bad.
