Reason I ask is because I want to convert my '84 to dual exhaust AND keep the stock dual-snorkel air cleaner assembly to sneak by the smoggers in Cali. Since the '85 headers still had the heat risers I'm hoping they'll work both visually and functionally, but if I'm wrong, please correct me. Are there any differences between AOD and 5-speed headers or are they all the same? I want to make sure that whatever '85 headers I get will work so when I locate a set I can just grab 'em.

While I'm on this subject, is there anything odd about the '85 headers as far as ability to bolt up to H-pipe assemblies, etc? I've heard of fitment issues but nothing specific.

I already know about x-members, exhaust hangers, etc. for the rest of the set up, but the headers are the real deal killer unless I can keep the engine compartment looking unmolested. Thanks guys!!

All the 85 exhaust headers should be the same.

The H-pipe thing.... I know it'll be hard to have those bolt up to a stock 2 1/4" 86+ h-pipe due to the 85 headers being 2 1/2". It may be possible that amy fit right up to an aftermarket 2 1/2" h-pipe. I plane on doing this.

The previous owner no doubt knew this whe he toss the 86 stock h-pipe on. This is the reason why he used 86+ headers with heatrisers welded on.

Good luck
