well, i tried running the motor w/o the belt and the strang sound is from the air pump. when i spun the air pump, i can hear the piston pushing the air up into the exhaust, much like someone turning a two-stroke engine at the crank.

guess its bad, eh?

well, i decided to kill some time by plucking out the air air pump.

from what it sounds like, the bearings are shot. i can hear the bearing dancing about in the pump. i am not one bit suprised by this. so this brings my second question. how much will a new air pump cost me?

and what does it mean by breaking it in anyway?

It will cost about $60, It is 20 years old so it just wore out. Mine did to. but we don't have sniffer tests in MI. :D
