Did you replace the rack with something different or a stock replacement?

I know the sport racks take a different pump than the normal racks...maybe that is it?

A lot of noise is because of a lot of the many different power steering fluids these days. Most of them are made to stop leaks and are thicker for older/worn power steering setups. When you add these fluids to new or refurbished setups the result is usually noise/groaning(especially Ford P/S pumps).

Just my experience.

Well Ford pumps for some odd reason do make more noise than others.

How long have you been driving the car since the new parts? My buddy's 81 5.0 conversion took a few days to settle down and stop making noise.

Ford C-2 pumps suck, period. I can identify Fords from the 80s without seeing them just by hearing that pump! I'm a former Ford tech and when I worked at the dealer I had to install 4 pumps into an F250 to find a quiet one!

To bleed most of the air out, lift the front wheels off the air and turn the steering wheel back and forth about 20-40 times with the engine OFF. That will push most of the air to the top of the system. But it may not help. It seems that once you've introduced air into the system, the pump will be loud and stay loud.
