I was searching for tan stuff for my 86 and came across this seller.....
Wonder if this is legit?
"Oh yeah, I did not part out a Grand Prix car it was just a paint job that looked like it on an old wrecked up car. I also have a NOS 83 Capri hood if anyone is interested please e-mail me and I can list it."

That scares me, but it does look like the red is painted on. On my car the red is a decal, but then again my was repainted and had the decals reapplied, by the past owner.

I've been studying the picture and comparing the stripes to some pictures I have of an unmolested original GPIV.
First clue that it is not correct is that the original stripes were decals an not painted as this fender shows. Also the original decals did not continue on in to the inside edge of the fender, they stopped right at the edge.
Second, the stripe pattern is not correct, either the painter didn't get the measurements right or they were working off of memory because the width of the stripes is not right. Especially as it heads back towards the cowl. On the real thing, the last two stripes are closer to being the same width.
Of course none of this proves whether or not it was originally from a GPIV car, just that it is not an all original fender. I would also agree with Mike in that not too many people out there would try to duplicate a GPIV.
I guess if I had the time and the money to do it, I would but then again, if I had the the money, I would have bought a real one.

also, aren't the stripes running at the wrong angle? Shouldn't the fattest strip be back toward the winshield on the driver's side?

On the hood & DS fender of the car, the stripes start out wide and get narrower as you go back. Of course since the stripes on the front of the car are at a 45° angle it can be confusing without a visual representation.
On the sides of the car, they start out narrow on the door and get wider as they continue back becoming a solid stripe just before the rear wheel well, it then continues around the back of the car (except for the area between the taillights) and then starts to get narrow again as it ends on the other door.
