It deserves it. It's been sitting in the backyard for years, ever since it jumped the timing belt and the valves smacked the pistons. I want to build it into a 2.5 stroker and shoot for 180-200hp at the crank, as well as put a shift kit in it. After that it's a matter of wheels and tires, then body work and off to paint. The porno red/plaid (!) interior is in surprisingly good condition and doesn't need a lot of work, so I'm good there. The body just needs some dents and rust fixed, new chrome in a few places and a coat of paint. I'm thining about having the decal just painted on. I'm thinking maybe a pearl white instead of the normal white and the decal appears to be medium red... Should make a good project for me in my auto class next semester, no?

Shouldn't need a 2.5 for 200 at the crank.

Should make it easier, since it is carbed and all

I'm making 200 at the wheel's roughly 240-250 at the crank with very simple mod's.

Being carb means nothing. What would make it easier is bringing it up to EFI Turbo 2.3 specs, 8:1 turbo pistons, a 2 barrel carb, an intercooler maybe...

Check out this guy's setup.

I'm definitely going to intercool it, I plan on checking the yards for a wrecked volvo with little or no front damage.

Are you gonna stay draw thru or convert to blow thru like in that link above? Cause if you do blow thru, i'd see about the SVO/Turbocoupe intercooler.

Blow through, for sure. That way, should something catastrophic happen (over-heated turbo, for example), the fuel won't blow up inside the turbo. Not to mention, less lag and I can intercool it.

How orignal did you want to keep the car?
Cause i'd say use a 83+ Turbo long block, use the old engines head(I think they are oval port), and just fresh'n up that engine and you'd probably be at 200 at the crank out of the box(of course depending on boost, turbo, and carb).

I've tried sourcing this stuff locally and it's almost impossible. I know where there's a turbocoupe or two, but I don't know if they have engines or if they are even selling the engines.

Too bad your so far away from me...in the spring I am pulling the 2.3T out of my 84 Turbo-Chicken to replace it with either a 5.0/5spd OR (what I really want) a Taurus SHO 32 Valve V6/5speed!!!
If it matters, my car just turned 89,000 miles, had a new timing belt and water pump last August and does NOT have a cracked manifold!!
Just thought I'd add my 2-cents worth!! RAY

I know people that have broken timing belts in 2.3's and had no problem with the pistons hitting the valves. Are you sure that happened to your car? These are supposed to be clearance engines.
Theres a guy that I see at the salvage yards every here and there that has a t-coupe and SVO that he's built up. These little 4 banges are impressive. I don't know the HP ratings of them... but I'm sure he's got them well over 200 rwhp.
He's part of the turbo ford site too.
Good luck on your project!

That's what my dad said, at least. It was a while a go (car's been sitting for... god... 10 years), the timing belt broke, pistons hit valves. The valves were bent and the pistons were chipped a bit not broken. My dad had it sent to a machine shop, but all the guy did was replace the bent valves. This presented problems later when A.)the valve guides went and B.)most of the valves weren't seating correctly.

Wow, there must have been something wrong with that engine anyway.
