i have searched the forums and not found any info on this. I am interested in buying a 84 mustang vert. I have 4 year old twins that are in booster seats and need the 3 point harness from a 90-93. has anyone done this or have any info? I understand the seat bottom needs modified, but what about the seat belt retractor itself? what about the 1/4 panels? I had a 87 vert before, but dont remember how they mounted, and dont have any cars around to check. also, has anyone done this on there car or a t-top, if i dont find a vert, that is also a option. thanks, tj

THE rear belts shoulder style from 90-93, as you know are slightly different. Fortunately, it has nothing to do with the rear 1/4 panels. the rear 1/4 panels house the front belts, which are different too, but in your case, you probably won't have to modify those.
the rear shoulder belts should be possibly to modify to your car. The way it works is the shoulder strap has a plastic sheath that screws into the seatback. From there, it is physically bolted with a t50 torquex bit into the frame of the car at the base behind the rear seat in either corner. You obviously would have to modify your car in that area to accept that bolt.
the buckles on the floor pan are relocated for this style seatbelt, and instead of being like the older cars, a bolt that screws into the floorpan, this newer style has a permanent stud coming through the floorpan in a slightly different location. This slightly different location is essential for that ubar to bolt on that supports the different seat bottom style, so you'll have to drill and tap a new location for the buckles. The actual lap belt part I believe bolts to the same area.
my brother, 50 proof is the guru for ttop cars and notches, seatbelt wise, here is a bump for him to respond to the other part of your question.
the simple answer is if you are handy and decently skilled, this is a modification that is entirely possible. Remember, it is your kids lives, so i don't have to tell you to be sure everything gets done properly.

thanks so much for your info, I am decent at fabricating, but just had no idea how they were mounted, or was trying to find someone that had done it to make sure. i would hate to buy the car then it not be feasible to do. also, this might sound silly, but are the 84 buckles that are in the middle of the seat, compatible with the 90 model latch? if so, i am thinking i could leave them in place and just swap the retractors. this way i wouldnt have to swap seat bottoms. i guess most people dont give a second thought to the back seat, but my most fond child hood memories are cruising with my mom and dad in his big block 69 mustang and 72 torino. back then no one cared about strapping in, even their kids!! i want my kids to enjoy that also, just a little safer and legally. thanks again, tj

the buckles didn't really change throughout the years. I'm only 90% on this one, but you should be able to just swap the retractors. Regardless, you likely won't find the retractors without them coming with the buckels too.
