I want to add a pr of 87-93 style outer door belt moldings and mirrors to finish off my glass quarter windows. How do I get the stock 83 window moldings off? I see how the 87-93 style works, but their is no screw retaining my 83's. Is it because it's a TTop?

I don't think they are different for a T-Top car but for my capri all I did was take the mirror off the car (that exposes a screw) and then you pretty much gently start pulling it straight up and off the door. Be very careful when doing this. If it seems to get stuck and not come up, with the window down, rock it back and forth as you pull up slightly. If that doesn't work, get a screwdriver and SUPER gently pry under it to maybe get it to pop. Watch your paint when you do this and make sure not to distort the moulding. If that doesn't work, then I'm not sure what to do. Maybe someone else on here can lend a little insight.

A screw under the mirror, huh? That makes sense. Hopefully it comes off nicely after that. Thanx a lot!

Anyone else have anything to add?

Well, I went to go to this project, and discovered I only have one of the 2 mirrors. I'm going to install the newer moldings and mirrors, but am missing one mirror. Not sure if I never had it, or lost it.

I'd probably be willing to sell the stock moldings if you are interested. Are they hard to come by or something? I'm not looking to get rich off stuff I don't want, so it won't be much. I will have to get back with you once I get the other mirror.

What do you do in the AF?

There have been numerous discussions on the 79-86 outer belt weatherstripping and basically the only ones left are the few good used ones that pop up in the junkyards. The NOS ones have dried up from Ford and most junkyard ones have cracked and busted up rubber.

SPEAKING OF WHICH- what is the latest on reproduction weatherstripping coming out. I remeber reading a thread about 50resto coming out with some but at that point they were still in the testing stages. When are they set to come out???

I talked with Matt at FoxMustangRestorations.com recently. He said reproduction dew wipes for verts would be out soon. What exactly soon is, he did not say.

Maybe inquire on his web site.

Let us know if anyone hears a date.

We have heard "soon" for the past year. There are some now and again on ebay. There was a NOS pair that went for pretty cheap...like $150....and a set for a vert on there now.

same here.. I'll believe it when I see it. The majority of the current weatherstripping is coming from Daniel Carpenter industries. He bought quite of bit of the original ford tooling.

I have heard about 85-86 'GT' mouldings for a while now, along with a bunch of other repro's I haven't seen yet, but were 'due any day'. I am sure it's not an easy process getting all the equipment in production, finding raw materials, etc.

I have two NOS sets I got years ago. Who knew they would get nearly $200 used on ebay?

wait, duh, if I put some 87-93 side mirrors on the car I can use the newer wipes? AWESOME. I have a set of complete doors off my last 88GT with good wipes and mirriors in my back yard!

Hmm, but they are painted black, where as the rest of my trim is grey. Owell.
