I am in need of the PPG code for 1986 capri trim. I know its a charcoal color but our PPG computer needs the code to match the color. Even the Ford color code would be great. I am doing a full repaint and resto of my car and I need either the PPG or Ford trim code. Any help would be awesome!
Thanks,
Ethan.

This is the best info I have found so far:

I have yet to know if this process actually works to get the correct satin finish....it sounds legit.

thanks a ton guys. I have the full line of PPG paints available here at college so I will probably experiment a bit. When I put 33717 in to the PPG computer, it gives me the color that you all listed so I am going to use that as my stating point. I may add a little clearcoat or something to it to give it that gloss. Thanks again guys! 8)

Are you going for a factory look or high gloss?
If you are going for the high gloss then you can base coat it with the 33717 and clear coat it....that's what I have.
If you want a stock look that link I posted says "dcx61 special low gloss color". I imagine it is some type of clear, do you know? Can you look that up for us? I think it would be really cool if you could mix up some of the stuff as per that formula and report back on how it turned out.
In any case, keep us posted with the results and PICTURES!

It may be a little while until I actually get to painting the car. I am doing my 1986 Capri and I am also doing my professor's 1986 Mustang SVO. I am in charge of both cars so when I get to painting them, I will let you all know what I did for colors and I will post plenty of pictures!

I looked on the computer for the DCX 61 but it doesn't list any thing when I put it in. So I consulted the PPG books and I can't find anything. I am going for the stock look so what I am probably going to do is mix it up like how it is supposed to be and then when it's all done, I may buff it to get some gloss.

Actually a quick search reveals that dcx61 is a hardener...not paint.

And that is what's supposed to give it it's satin shine.
I'm still curious to verify this formula. Is the following that I was given, correct for mixing color 33717?
dmc902 black 226.6
dmc900 str. whi 215.8
dmc901 str. bla 137.5
dmc929 lt red 76.0
dmc904 blue 38.5
dx995 matt bas 421.9
As to buffing....I wouldn't try to buff it as there are far too many cracks and crevices to buff out....you would never get them all.
Putting some clear in with the paint does sound interesting.
Well, keep us posted!

I can check on the computer again tomorrow for that mix. I can print it our or write it down and ill post on here. The reason I couldn't find that number was because I was looking for a paint that was that color. I'm not sure if we have that hardener. I'll have to check. This spring when I get to painting, I will take tons of pics and post formulas.

Excellent. This has been a little pet peeve of mine since nobody seemed to know. Then when I got that formula...it was too late and my car had been painted. I'm dying to know if the formula actually works. Someday I plan on getting my trim repainted correctly.

OK here is what I got right from PPG for mix # 33717
DMD649 CLEAR 231.5
DMD1683 BLACK 183.1
DMD614 BLUE 51.2
DMD1684 WHITE 43.2
DMD624 VIOLET 25.7
DMD622 RED 24.1
DBX1689 CLEAR 444.6
oddly it has the OEM color listed as 7Z.
After my spring break I will start mixing it up to see if I can match the color.
