I just managed to acquire a slightly used 79-82 Mustang underhood insulator pad.
By slightly used, I mean, it has some indentations here and there (2) and a couple edges have gotten a couple small bit out of it (4-5).
I was thinking of glueing in some pieces of another underhood pad I have to fill in the gaps (trying to make the repair as invisible as possible) and then painting it or applying some kind of coating to darken it right up and make it look somewhat new again. I figure a coating of anything would make it a bit more durable too.
Does anyone have any creative ideas?
Knowing that the stuff is very fibrous....is there a spray that can duplicate the texture? Should I just use some black fabric dye and darken it up that way?
The insulator is really in amazing shape considering its age. The only major major drawback that could be a problem was that it hardened up a tad over the years.
