All right I've got a good one.

Anyone ever rebuild the gearbox on the motor? One of mine is trashed. It seems one of the plastic parts inside broke into many, many pieces. Hard to say what it originally looked like.

I'm tempted to pull the other side and take it apart. I highly doubt I could even find the part if I wanted but maybe I could get one machined.

I hate to pay 140 to 50Resto for a whole motor. Anyone have a motor for sale?

Wish me luck.

I think there are some repair kits out there for these motors.

I would throw Matt @ FoxMustangRestorations an email and see if he either has the repair kits or a decent, used condition motor.

Let me know how you make out. I am sure I will need to do the same one day on my 86 convert.

Thanks Capri

I put in a parts request to him. I'll let you know what I find out.

We have almost identical cars. Except yours is in much better shape.

J, do you have any photos of your 86? I don't get a chance to chat with too many other 86 convert owners.

What are you plans for the car? original resto, or modified?

PLSTKTNKR Thanks, I'll look around.

Capri, I don't have a digi cam but I need to take some regular pics and scan them.

Freshening the interior now. No heavy mods planned. Just stuff like SFC and 3:73s. Drive and enjoy mainly.

Just wanted to give you guys an update.

I got impatient and ordered a motor from 50resto. It was 80 not 140. The price had come down and I had an older catalog. (and 3:73s, a heater core, dash paint and some other stuff)

I also found a couple used motors but do not have them yet. Someone on the corral was parting a car so I should be getting both rear window motors.

Anyway, Matt from foxmustangrestoration called me after I placed a parts request. I am buying the bushing kit from him to fix my existing motor. He said it usually is the bushings that go. Mine did, I have it apart.

I'll have to return the new one to 50resto.

Now for the really good part. Dew wipes!!!!! Matt had a NOS pair. Now they are mine. He also told me that reproduction ones should be available very soon.
