I am not getting the standard IE "page not found" , I am getting a stangnet "page not found" that directs me to the main page.

When I visited it yesterday, it had been a month or so since I last visited. I even cleared the cache, and i've cleared cookies a few times.

As mentioned in another thread, have you tried another browser to see if its the same thing? Or goto a friends house and check.

Do you have searching enabled from the address bar? That does weird stuff.
(Tools->InternetOptions->Advanced->Search From the address bar) Turn this off

Check for adware/malware?

Have you tried a different machine?
