I pulled up to it at the light, and I just new that it had to go down. It has been years since I last saw one, and I new that I never killed one before. I came off the line with a launch that is hard to beleve. I let the engine wind out before slapping into second. His bumper was equal to my mirror when I popped into third. Then I got bored and floored it going on to the freeway. I left that Yugo in the dust

There is one in the J/Y by me, LOL. My buddy wanted the Yugo emblem off the hatch so I cut it off with a steak knife for him.

I have a GV emblem in my garage. A reminder of the biggest POS I ever saw.

I still like the Autozone commertial where the guys drive the Yugo off the bridge.

I lost to a Yugo once. He beat me off the line, my bumper was probably even with his front tire. When I hit second he pulled a little further ahead, my bumper was then even with his door. I was doing 110mph, and he slowly started to walk away from me, so I gave up at the other end of the intersection.

My Caprice sucks in the snow.

I've been in a Yugo that was going 108mph. That was truly terrifying.

It had no hood, a jeep carb, two carb spacers, a glasspack and a dump....and no tierod ends left to speak of.

I haven't seen one of those in about ten years. That's when I saw three complete, non-wrecked ones in the scrapyard  .

WTF?! Yugos can go past 60MPH !

I'd think the engine would just fall out.

those little motors are shocking...lol

we dynoed it, its a SOHC 1.1 liter, it made 45hp the wheels....and we spun it to 8000rpms....lol

yes, we put the bottle on it too, no tuning, and holding the fogger over the open carb and running straight bottle pressure it made either 75 or 80hp....lol

and trust me, this little turd was doing over 100mph, speed limit was 65 and we were passing people like they weren't moving.

Nato bombed the plant....and there were trade sanctions.

They still make them apparently now....just newer models.

Actually, it looks like things closed up shop here in the US long before the plant got bombed.

In early 1989 Yugo America went bankrupt, which threatened to remove the Yugo from the USA. No 1989 models were imported, so dealers sold leftover 1988 models. Reorganization brought Yugo America back to life, but it faced a major battle to repair it's poor image.

A revived Yugo GV Plus with fuel injection was introduced in 1990, along with the long awaited Yugo Cabrio. The Cabrio was priced twice as high as the hatchback, and offered an electric folding top, heated glass rear window, automatic folding quarter windows, and an aerodynamic body kit, which included fog lamps. The first shipment of Cabrios were not fuel injected though. Following it's bankruptsy, Yugo America became a subsidary of Zastava, rather than a seperate organization. The 1991 models were the last to be imported, they came with larger fuel tanks, better seats, a better steering wheel angle, and automatic transmissions. Previously, all Yugos came with a manual transmission.

Sales of the Yugo slipped to a minimum before the company closed it's doors for good. Americans don't likes the tiny hatchbacks, like this. It was economical, but weak and not as comfortable and not as equipped compared to the average american cars. In the early 90's when Yugoslavia was in war the export fallen. The production of the factory was unstable.

My brother in law had a 88 back in the day. He used to drive 65 miles each way to work everyday. He bought it new and drove the hell out of it. He got a speeding ticket for 103 MPH. I know cause I was in it. That little 4 banger was screaming. When he went to court for the ticket, the judge asked him how he pleaded. He said, Your honor, look at the ticket. I drive a Yugo. The judge laughed and threw it out.

That was the option to have...kept your hands warm as you pushed it down to the side of the road!

The very first time I saw a Yugo it was on the enterance ramp shoulder with the hood up rolling out lots of steam and smoke. It was brand new and the flashers were only working on one side if I recall. POS kind of like a Le Car that has three lug nuts.

When I was a kid a Cadillac Dealer near my house would GIVE you a yugo if you bought a new Caddy.. I guess they ran out of spare tires

Kind of like the current Kia deal: Buy one, get one free. Hard to believe some poor dumb ass would throw good money after such a POS.

BUT its a "New Car". That is until you drive it and then its just another used car. A USED POS.
