Hey guys...i'm planning on replacing the doors on my coupe. I've got a pair of newer '87+ power doors i'd like to put on, but i want to keep my original trim on the outside of the door, and i'll eventually get '85 power window panels for the inside...but that's later.

Can someone tell me how to remove and replace the trim on the outside of the doors? Is there a Haynes manual or something about this sort of stuff? I don't have any resources for body work for my car.

I used a thing pry bar and a hammer... Just be extremly careful when you remove them, as they have metal strips in the backing, which is mostly why when they warp its very hard to make the straight again.Just take your time with them.

Piano wire works or even fishing line I have heard.

If they get all bent up use HissingCobra's writeup to remove the metal backing strips and flatten out the trim.

These make it a lot easier. Just be slow and take your time.

Good luck,

That tool is for releasing the clips for window molding.
Did you just misread the original post, or have you used that tool to remove body side molding?

If so how? I have one of those tools and it never occured to me to try to use it to remove side molding (I've used a propane torch heated putty knife).

After reading your post, and looking a that tool again, I can see it working if you were to sharpen the inside of the hook portion, using it to cut the mounting tape.

Sorry guys....guess i should have been a bit more clear....i mean the window strip/molding, not the body stripe molding.....the "frame" around the windows, and i need to know how to remove both the new and old style.

Just pull them off, don't lose the clips though.

The tool mentioned above works great for the metal trim below the dew wipes.

Take care,
David
