...I don't think he stayed long, but he got two nice stereos.

It's my own damn fault!
Living in the same neighborhood for ten years with no problems like this lulled me in to a false sense of security.

Both stereos had detachable faceplates.
If I hadn't been so lazy leaving them in the vehicles this wouldn't have happened.

I'm more pissed at myself than anything.
Stupid!
Stupid!
Stupid!

Godamn I hate thieves!http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/blackeye/2gunsfiring_v1.gif

This is what he left behind in the Capri, in addition to a ashtray full of silver change, and three winning scratch-off lottery tickets in the console.
Real pro.

did you have an alarm system in them? anymore damage to the capri?

sucks though...

Nope, no alarm.

I think he used a slim jim or something to get into the Capri. The dash was just scratched up.

It certainly could have been much, much worse.

I quite putting alarms in my cars when I realized I sleep to deep to hear it, and everyone else just ignores them when they go off.

go on eBay and look for the units, I bet they will surface there (if the thief is computer literate)

I'm wondering if your cars were "scanned" before for equipment? Did anyone else in the neighborhood have anything stolen from their vehicles during the same time period or week? Did you file a police report?

that just plain sucks man...

sorry to hear about that man. I can't stand thieves.

My mothers 85 LX Vert got broken into(luckily not through the top!) and the Kenwood (with detachble face) got ripped off. The idiotic thing about it was they took apart most of the center console for some reason! So I not only had to install a new Kenwood CD player for her... But I had to put the console back together and replace what parts they broke from it. She now removes the face from her CD player when she leaves the car.

Dude, I think we are twins separated at birth!
Those same thoughts, almost word for word were running through my mind this morning.
Thanks for the support.

I ever see someone breaking into a car, there will be a serious beating = hospitalization.

My wife and I were just talking, and counted up five times this has happened to us with various cars over the 20 years we've been together. Five times, not counting a few acts of random vandalism.

I don't remember what I ate for breakfast, but each of those five times came to mind clearly, and quickly!

I'm wondering if your cars were "scanned" before for equipment? Did anyone else in the neighborhood have anything stolen from their vehicles during the same time period or week? Did you file a police report?

I'm betting they were scanned.
None of my immediate neighbors got hit, but they've all got newer, mundane, stock rides.

I did file a report, and in fact even had the serial numbers for both decks. The police said there is a 50-state database for stolen property. Whenever something is recovered (anywhere) the serial numbers are entered, and if the serial number for either deck is entered, my name and case file will pop up.

The officer that took the report seemed pleased that I had the serial numbers.
She gave some examples of how they sometimes recover stolen property, like drug busts, stuff showing up in pawnshops, etc.
If an officer makes a traffic stop that for some reason results in a vehicle search (seen COPS?), and they discover several car stereos in the trunk, they confiscate them to run the serial numbers.

...Sooo, there is a chance I might see my stuff again. Long shot, but stranger things happen.

Here's the rub: The Kenwood deck stolen from the Capri won't ever play music again unless it makes its way home.
It had a programmable security code feature. The code has to be entered any time the deck loses main power.

Now that I think about it though that probably means that it'll end up in the trash.

On the upside I got a window today for the LSC for only $20.

Grr. This stuff burns me up. My mom had two stereos stolen from her car and my sister's boyfriend also had two head units stolen. And look at where I live, it doesn't sound like a high-crime area!

Alarms don't mean anything because everybody sets them off when they're getting into their cars anyway. Just locking your doors is worthless too. What really sucks is the potential damage a thief can do to your car to get that stereo out. A guy I work with has never been able to use his driver-side window since a break-in several years ago. They gouge-up your dash and bust your windows, break your console.

You don't f**k with a guy's (or girl's) car, to quote Pulp Fiction. We work hard for our stuff, and should never be sorry when sombody steals that stuff. Don't blame yourself, we've been conditioned to think that way. Theifs steal our belongings and get a slap on the wrist and we're left to feel partially responsible. America has lost it's sense of accountability, and the laws support it. You can't harm that guy in any way who is ripping stuff out of your car... you just have to wait to fill out a police report from which you get a net retribution of zilch. So people don't even feel like doing that anymore.

And jeez, wasn't that a rant! Seriously, don't feel like your partially at fault. Stealing is one of the lowest things a human can do.

I had a freind that had a VW bug in his one car garage. All his tools were behind the bug. Easy to get to .... or at least you'd THINK that. Well, one day I walked by his open garage and saw him poking around with a broom stick. I asked him why? His respoce? He said he hadn't been in the garage for a while and had forgotten where he put the bear traps!

I got my stereo jacked once out of my old Ranger....lucky for me i even left the door unlocked so at least the asshole didnt have to smasha window open. The guy stole a 5 year old Pioneer cd player, and the seak buttons didnt even work! You had to listen to the whole cd straight through! I called the cops and they more or less laughed at me, so the next day i went straight out and bought ANOTHER cd player, brand now, and put it in the same truck. Then i purposely drove around the apartment complex with the windows down and the music blasting every time i came through, advertising that i'd replaced it. Then that night i hid in the woods just next to my building with a baseball bat hoping the same little POS would try to jack it again, but nobody ever tried. It would be worth having my stuff stolen just to catch someone in the act.

sorry man that sucks i know. i was on the way to buy my 85 and the assclown at the lot let one of his friends drive it even though i said i was coming to pick it up and the kids got the accelerator stuck and left it on the side of the road and byt the time i tracked down where it was and what happened someone busted out the passanger side window and stile two twelves and a pioneer deck. i had only driven the car once and hadn't even listened to the stereo so i didn't miss it. just the principle of the whole thing pissed me off. oh plus replacing the window is NOT fun. and i still find glass in my car 4 years later.

Reminds me of my friend. He had his Integra stolen twice. The first time they stole his stereo, but in his word, "the joke's on them" because it was a Mini-disc head unit without the face plate. He's one of the three or four people in the US who is still a fan of Mini-disc LOL.

Seriously, who would buy a Mini-disc unit with no face plate? The thief probably trashed it.

I may just have EVERYONES revenge..... TRUE STORY!!! Back in my younger days I had an '83 GT with "sounds" in it. KENWOOD 999 (anybody remember those), MB QUART separates, Quart 6x9's, Kicker ss10 box and KENWOOD 9020 amp. If anyone remembers that head unit you know it was a pullout, the precursor to todays face off units.

Anyway, I'm at this girls house one night, I had met at one of our local hangouts (first mistake). I had to park the car on the street 2 houses away(second mistake). I leave her house late that night after having been there waaayyy too long. As I walk toward the car I notice theres light coming from inside and I know I had'nt left the interior light on since I'd been there since daylight.

When I get to the car the drivers door is open and a leg is hanging out and a body is leaned over the console in front of the radio(yes, it was in the car. third mistake). Fortunately, the guy has no idea I'm standing there. I quietly reached behind the drivers seat and grabbed BUFORD(I swear this is true). This cat is so into what he's doing that when I said, "You alright in there? Do you need some help?", he just about jumped to the other side of the car. But heres the kicker.... his response is "Naw, I just got this new radio and I'm trying to put it in."

At that point BUFORD lost it and commenced to wailing on the guy...in the car! He managed to crawl out the other side and run but unfortunately for him he was'nt faster than me and BUFORD. Two houses down(yes, in front of the girl,s house) he got the beatdown of a lifetime.

Turns out it was the girl's cousin. He lived across the street and had seen me come over earlier in the day and heard me "BUMPIN'". Thereafter, whenever I go to a strange neighborhood, I ALWAYS crank it down before i hit the street.

I once had someone try to break into a truck I had. He wasnt the brightest of thieves either. The door wasnt locked, so I cant figure out why he was bothering with the slim-jim.

He wasnt a complete idiot though. He ran at the sight of my pistol.

I had my RS broken into aswell, It wasn't that hard as I have damn T-TOPs and so he did'nt damage the door, he just reached in and hit the door locks. I didn't have a high priced deck inside so no big loss, but that @ss hole attacted the ignition with vengence! and I had a horrable time with the repair... and I thank god that he didn't press the clutch in and the man across the street came over to get me and we called the cops.. the got them with in a half hour as their get away car was a crap-brown 64 dodge dart! the perfect getaway car, talk about blending in.....
So now I park my truck about a inch behind and I have a clutch lock. :x

This summer just past i had put a new MP3 palyer in my car since i keep seeming to scratch up any cds i put in my car. neway me and a bunch of my friends are out crusing the local drag when we decide to go to the movies, well when we come out of the movies this guy is walking around my car from the drivers side with something in his hand. yup my MP3 player, so I take off like bat outta hell and i get close to buddy b4 he realises who i am and the bang i swing, he uses the player as a shield and put my fist throught the bottom of the MP3 player, well now im twice as pissed  . end result buddys face made repeated dents in my trunk lid. I got Aressted for assult but got let off for dropping charges against him (was i really saposta wait for the cops he would been long gone)

P.S- good news is i didnt get a chance to sell my old Cd player so I just reinstalled it. :D
