With my great find on the engine, i cna spend a little more elsewhere, and figure it might be easier just to buy a packaged kit than piece everything together. I know about Kauffman's kit, but their site hasn't been updated in years, so that's probably out of the picture. Is there anyone else selling a kit, or am I stuck piecing everything together

you can get the oilpan swap kit (pan, pickup, and dipstick) from jegs or summit or wherever...and then all u need is a flywheel and pulleys and brackets...good luck

For an outragous price hike.

Last I read, the Crown Vic oil pan was the same pan in the FMS Swap kit. Not sure how much that holds water though. But that was one of the orignal sources I used to read to get a pan from.

What is the proper flywheel to hook up a 351 to an SROD? Is it still the 50oz imbalance or is it the 28oz?

Anyone else hear about the Crown Vic pan swap???

ALL 351Ws = 28.2 oz. imbalance factor

The transmission has nothing to do with the imbalance factor.

just go to the JY and get a flywheel off of a 351, but it needs to be 157 tooth i believe to fit into the srod/t-5 bellhousings, but i think i'm just gonna buy a centerforce flywheel for like $230, and then put a king cobra clutch on it and stick it in once it's built up....i'm in the same boat as u are...good luck

All 5.0's after 82 had the 28.2 imbalance, correct? And all standard 351W's?

Nope, other way around. All 302s BEFORE 82 had the 28.2.

Will an SROD even handle the torque/power?

I know that the 351 is a raised block. Are the mounting points the same, or are they also raised? I won't mind if the engine sits a little high, I won't be using a hood.

What year Crown Vics/Grand Marqius will work?

The only thing raised on the 351 is the deck height. But since that is taller, when you put the heads on, the mounting points for the brackets are different.

For the years of CV/GMs, since I don't know them. Check www.partsamerica.com and search for the oil pans between 86-89. Whichever ones display the 5.8 as an option...would be the one.

All CVs from 79 to 91 had the correct pan for fox bodies. Both the 5.0 and the 5.8. I have an 88ish CV 5.0 in my 83, and have a 79 351W for future use (after an overhaul).

I prefer the CV accessory drive over the stang's.

When we did this swap we just went down to McCarville Ford & bought the FRPP 351W swap oil pan kit. It comes with the pickup and dipstick and it was like $40. They had it in stock too.

A windage tray should clear a crown vic pan, right? I think this may have been part of the cause of my 302's demise, since the oil pressure would drop in slaloms and big curves
