I couldnt resist it today. I was goin home from work, and I've been happy cuz the Capri is runnin really really good. So I was about half way home on a not so busy street. So I see some bright blue lights, I was like, "damn ricers". So I see the lights whip and manuever to the next lane. A banana yellow Scion "lunch box" XB with a hideous body kit ground effect lights and so many stickers on it you would think its a rollin fly trap rolls up. Dude looks over and says, "Your sh*ts all noise, it ain't fast". He starts laughin at me and revs the hell out of his box....... I just look over and start bustin up. I mean it was just so funny. So he got a lil mad and frowned and said, "what you laughin at? I'll smoke you" So I was like really? OK.... I gave the Capri a couple pings on the throttle, all while the ricer is hittin his rev limiter.... Opposing light turns yellow I gas it up to about 2200rpm. Once the green hit I must of blown his doors off from the get go. He was a goner not to be seen, just anihilated. Now..... why in your right mind would you ever line up a lunch box with nothing but ground effects loud sound system and a coffe can muffler next to anything with a 5.0 badge? I'm glad my car looks older, nothing better than the face of a young boy gettin his ass handed to him by a 20+ year old car....lol So after about whippin him, and hes way back in traffic, I go make my next turn and he does the traditional ricer fly by. Poor dude. Well that was my fix for the day. My day was crap till that happened. Eneough of my babbling, see ya fellas.

I was on the way to work the other day, and a slammed Civic with big wheels and a fart pipe is stopped behind me at a light. He's looking like Mr. Cool, so when the light turned green, I floored it. On my way to 60 mph, I looked back at him furiously trying to catch me, but I was pulling away. I backed off at 60, and he flew by me (I was doing 45 at the time) and drove off on the ricer flyby. I laughed my butt off.

What was I driving, you ask? A 1994 F-150 extended cab with a stock 302. I've busted many a ricer with it too. :D

ah me too, i love when they want to take it from a roll and i just keep blipping the gas getting sideways and making them scared. this is how you should race a ricer though, if you do this you own him. After you race him, you should be roughly 10-30 cars in front, so slow down and let him come up on you, as he gets closer you can already forsee the ricer flyby so downshift and pull another 3-4 cars on him when he was going to do the flyby and if you can....he is now your *****

I actually own an XB. Its a great little car for running back and forth to work and gettin' groceries. zips in and out of traffic and around corners respectably also. But it is what it is a grocery getter. Better not get in a hurry about going anywhere in that thing.

It takes a complete moron to think they are ever going to get anykind of performance out of it.

I'm glad you tought that idiot a lesson. Sad part about it is he probably went home and told his ricer buddies about the 5.0 he waxed that evening..... and sadder they probably believed him!

The ricer flyby does seem to be a patented(tm) maneuver on the 'slow and the furious' crowd.

The way around that is to blast to a speed at which these little 115HP turds cannot even reach.

with the site of a rollbar and screeching s-trim they will never even bother with me anymore at a light. But I do have a good time in my 2 door Explorer Sport, 210 HP SOHC w/ 4.10 gears.

man do they get pissed getting beat by an SUV.

I was on my way to work once, cruising along the in the mustang. I see this ricer in a 96 or 97 eclipse pull out into traffic ahead of me and zipping in and out of traffic. The car in front of me turns right (I'm in the right lane and the ricer is in the left lane) and we catch a light. I'm sitting there, just waiting for it. This thing is atrocious by the way, it's got some ugly wheels, broken eurotails, a big ol' fart cannon and various decals and stickers. I hear "Wheeeee, wheeeeEEEE *psh*" and look over. He's revving me. I look at him, flash a smartass grin and chuckle then rev it to about 4k. I see the lights turn yellow, so I hold the revs around 2,000. As soon as the light was green, I was off the line. He waited a second then mashed it and spun his front tires. I short shifted around 4,500 rpms and had him all the way to 55 or 60 in second gear when I shut it down because there were some cars up ahead. naturally, I hurt his prode so he went flying past with the hazards on and came over into my lane... just in time to catch a light right next to a very mean sounding 58 stepside chevy truck. They guys in the truck shot him a rev, and rather than lose twice, he turned on his signal real quick and turned right

I forgot to mention that I was broke that week so I filled it up with 85 octance and backed the timing off a few degrees

I wanted to ask him how it felt to get the doors blown off of his eclipse that he wasted so much money on by making it sound and look like crap, by a mustang with retarded timing and economy gas nonetheless

while you guys are gloating about you walking all over ricers, my only race in my old mustang was much more fair and close. i was filling a gas can for a friend of mine. as i got in and started my car, i saw a guy in a green 305 RS start up aswell. when i pulled from the gas station, he catches up and we're driving next to eachother to a light. he said, "what you got in there?". i said just a 302. Then, as if it was a better thing he said, "well i got a three-oh-five". i said, "whatever". then he revved his engine so i was compelled to race him. so the light turned green and we were off. i managed to beat him by half a car length by the next light. and he said that i had a good car there, i said thanks. and the best thing about that race was after we hit the next light, there was a terrible rattle coming from is Camaro. haha i managed to beat him and make something in his car break. Hopefully, my new mustang will see challengers

Much more close? I have yet to see a 305 Camaro run with a Mustang, it seems to at least take a 350 to make it a fair fight (at least in stock trim). I thought it was pretty funny I wasted a modded Civic with a heavy F-150. I think he was trying to show off for someone else too. I figured he would have at least been close.

I remember one night in particular I was out cruising about 6 months after I got my car. I pulled into the parking lot of the local Burger King and a IROC-Z28 pulled up beside me and asked "Whatcha got in there?!"

I replied "Just a 302 and a 4 speed."

He looked puzzled and said "Don't those come with 5 speeds?"

I smiled and said, "Most of 'em. Wanna race?"

He smiled and said "I don't think so." as he drove off.

I laughed and laughed and laughed...

I hardly ever get into street races. My '86 is pretty farking loud, and has a very grumpy idle, so maybe that's why. On the other hand it's a sleepy color and has NO body mods other than the wheels so who knows? Since I did away with the stock engine 3 years ago I've had no one try to race me from a stoplight. I just don't go looking for races unless there's no other traffic around.

On the other hand, I've had some pretty sweet races on the interstate. The last memorable one was with a young guy in a green '94-95 GT. We were both doing about 70 mph when I came up on him so I really don't know what mods he had done, only visible thing was a 4" white cowl hood and different wheels. He looked over at me and we gave each other the approving nod. Traffic was very light so I didn't hesitate to give him a run. He mashed the gas then I did the same, keep in mind we are two lanes apart. We got up to well over 130, and I had put about 4 carlengths on him. Gave each other the thumbs up as he got off his exit. Those are the kind of races I like- no traffic, no cops, and two friendly enthusiasts racing each other.

Another time, I was with a friend of mine on the same interstate, and came up on a guy and his girl in a red Civic hatch with a carbon fiber hood and one or two stickers on the 1/4 windows. I couldn't resist slipping it in neutral and revving the engine hard one time as I passed him slowly.
After a couple aborted attempts due to traffic, we got a good stretch, slowed down to about 50 mph and both stomped it. He hung surprisingly well until about 80 or so, then he was behind me by more and more carlengths. Had a couple more quick romps and as I slowed down he pulled up beside me, doing the nitrous button motion with his thumb and finger and pointing at me. I just pointed toward the front of my car and mouthed the words "ALL MOTOR" as clearly as possible and he shook his head and went past. I had to laugh that he thought I would need nitrous to whup him that bad. No idea what was done to that car but it was alot faster than any Civic I've run before. Fun times!

Just gotta choose the right time and place. You won't see me burning tires from every stoplight or picking on cars in stop and go traffic, ever

a big ol' fart cannon <--- to funny. I agree

305 vs 302

well we know the differance, but alot of kids dont. My 89 Iroc had a 305 and I thought nice 5.0l - dont laugh I was a newbi :). Funny thing is I had a buddy who ran stangs and after stomping me on the h1 a couple times he filled me in. Thus was that start of my wrench turning.

I'm glad this post came up, as I street raced about 3 hours ago, and won big time.

It was at a red light, I was in the fast lane (left). He was revving, and I figured, what the hell, why not?

He hung with me on the green, even pulled ahead a little bit. That might be because I launched from idle, and let the clutch out slowly through first, while giving it more and more gas. When I hit 2nd, I nailed it, and spun the tires all the way through that gear. I put about 10 car-lengths between him and me, and then hit 3rd. I spun that gear to about 4,000 RPM, and shut off at about 60MPH. I toasted him baddd! The road merged into one lane, so he couldn't do a ricer flyby.

You wanna know the funny thing about this race? It was a Hummer H2. No joke. He actually thought he could beat me! Hah!

I still think the most amusing to be had to be a second generation prelude that was going to race me in the SVO. I could see him lane jumping to catch up with me, when he finally got next to me, I let it touch boost then shifted into third, just enough to lurch forward a little, he got on the brakes and jumped in behind me about 3 cars back.

I've had my ass kicked a time or two though. I was screwing with a WS6 6 speed trans am, one of the last LT1 cars in the Coupe. I could stick with the regular ones up to about 75, then they just drove off. Well I got on his butt, and he just punched it and drove off like I wasn't moving....lol

Eh... I won't even mess with a vehicle w/a LT1.

Whats funny is the people that have cars that are obviously not as fast as even a stock 85 GT that try to pull greasers and other idiotic moves. I mean c'mon here... THINK.

I have a friend that had a new IROC camero (85 I think, don't know when they were made) and his buddy had a new 85 Mustang GT 4bbl 5 speed... all stock... in high school. Tom said that 85 GT would run circles around his IROC all day. He said it blew him away that a stock Mustang could do that to his IROC and be that fast.

I drive my GT casually... I take it easy with it. But when the stituation is good and somebody does something rude or dumb... I show them what it can do.

Something like that happened today. I was taking the 405 north interchange to the marina freeway west. Toward the end of the interchange the lane merges from 2 to one lane. I'm in the right lane getting ready to merge into the left lane and this girl speeds up to prevent me from merging infront of her... And I was aleard in front of her to begin with... just in annother lane! Any ways... I merge infornt of her and she gets pissed and pulls across a solid white line to the right (where the 405 south merged on to) and jumps ahead of the car infont of me and speeds away. Well... I'm ok with that... but if she wants to throw a fit... I'll wake her up. She's aready a few car lengths infront ... so I drop it from 5th to 4th, get it up to 4K before going back into 5th while passing her and her little POS up and get right back infront of her.

Corse, There was no real valid reason for me doing this... other than just having a little fun with somebody.

i have had a few incounters

the first: i had just had the 86 finished (still had white doors and hood)and it was still a AUTO . me and my dad where cruzing on the high way when i passed a eclipse w/the usual wing, rims , exhaust and big tach , as soon as i pass him i here him down shift and come up next to me . he has his window down and his G/F in in the passenger seat and he was saying something but i couldnt here him over my exhaust  . finaly the g/f leanes out the window and says "is it a 5.0 ?" im like yeah . the next thing i know he downshftes , so im like ok and punch it and from about 60 to 85 where i shut down i pulled him by about 5 cars lenghs  . as we came up on a stop light , he had his windows rolled up and wouldnt look over .i must have imbaressed him with his G/F 8)

second : a 80s model cutlas with a 350 . it supposeble has a cam and intake. well he lives in my subtivison and was telling everyone that mustangs are slow and mine only had 180hp :?: i wasnt wanting to race him , but he keep on and on about how slow my car was . so finaly one day i said **** it , lets do now . so we went to this strait stretch next to my house , we lined up , i reved to about 2500 rpm and we where off . threw first gear he was alittle ahead(i had a bit of a traction issue :P )shifted to second , and he just keep falling back , 3rd , i was atleat 4 cars ahead so i got in his lane :D . when we came back to my house , i got out of the car and said "WOW its amazing what 180 hp will do " hahaha .

i got more but i will save them for later .

1985 first year for street IROC-Z. You had yer choice of iroc or z28 until 1989 when the z28 was drop for iroc only until 1990 1/2 when they went back to z28 only.

stock-

if its a 5 speed it a 305 fulie, auto could be both 350 and 305.
of the 305 you had HO (vin f ) and grocery getter with an iroc sticker throttle body (my 89 was tbi) difference was multi port and a cam between them.

Now take a 305 5 speed with a wc t-5 (toward the end of the iroc run) and add a nice 350 and you'll get a run for your money. One thing I do admire about fords 302 is they have same piston size as 350 but shorter stroke. ( chevy 327 is a destroked 350 for the most part, different main journals though) Now you take a 305 and you have smaller bore (3.78" vs 4" of 350 and ford 302 ) but its the same crank as a 350 - go figure.

And that’s why most irocs ate dirt factory when compared to a stang, and of the 350 ones well - the transmissions where week (700r4) until after 86 when they where beefed up, but you had to add the corvette second gear servo and a shift kit to have it turn you on.

------------------------------

Unfortunately no race stories yet, only drove it for a month before I had to take it off the road. The new bypass is done and it about a 4 mile stretch of semi straight road. This summer is going to be fun.

Huh? Maybe you mean a 3.000" diameter for stoch Ford 302? Because that's what every book I've laid my hands on has said. 3" bore, with 3" stroke.

8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O

Bore diameter x bore diameter x .7854 x stroke length x number of cylinders = displacement
and
Cubic inches devided by 61 = liters

3 x 3 x .7854 x 3 x 8 = 169.6464 CI
169.6464 CI / 61 = 2.781L
------------------------------------------
302
4 x 4 x .7854 x 3 x 8 = 301.5936 CI
301.5936 CI / 61 = 4.94L

while looking all this up I ran my 289 and it seems its bore is 4.005. Might the 302 be the same. if so it works out to 302.3480 CI

He wanted to race, so I waited until both lights were red, then held the revs at 2200 RPMs. The light turns green and I let the clutch, mash the gas and... spin my tires like a monkey. I had only driven it with the headers for about 5 minutes before that so I wasn't used to the shift in the power band and increase in power. When I shifted to second I was starting to catch up, then we went from a roll and started to get ahead of him until i had to turn into the gas station.

I was comming from work one summer afternoon in the Chevelle, when a yellow 'vert GTO (67-ish)pulss behind me. He flashes his hi-beams and I nod. At the next stoplight we pull up side by side.

At the light, i begin to power brake to gain some RPMs, and the dude pops the stick into first. light flashes green and we're both off...hard. Both cars screach tires and are at full wail. I'm barely pulling on him, i could see his hood next to mine. I wish I had some one recodoring that. Imagine seeing a GTO and a Chevelle running at WOT down the blvd, with two sets of Flowmasters wailing!. We raced about 1/4 mile and I beat him by like a 1/2 a car length. The guy flashes the highs again, gives me the thumbs up and drove away. Needles to say, I went home satisfied.

A 289 is a bored out 260. A 302 is a stroked 289. So the bore from a 289 to a 302 should be the same.

Haha.. that reminds me of when I was 17 and had my first Mustang, a black '85 GT. I was next to some teenage girls in a FWD '85 or so Buick Somerset Regal at the light. When I left the light I squeaked the tires a little and the next thing you know the girl driving the Regal is nailing it and sails on past me. I gassed it and tried to catch her but by that time it was too late. My buddy in the passenger seat couldn't stop laughing that I got smoked by these girls in a FWD grandma car. Probably didn't look very good from any POV, but very funny nonetheless
